The US does pay significantly higher, but with enormous costs. My senior full stack engineer position would be about 60k/year at the government, which is a significant income to Dutch standaards.
My monthly costs are around 1400 per month, the rest used for savings and fun.

I installed new blinds on our two roof windows and closed them this evening. I’m not sure a cave gets much darker than that.
Nobody got injured (so far).
- Comment on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 sucks up to 180 Mb/s of internet bandwidth while in flight — equivalent to 81GB of data per hour 5 weeks ago:
It is. If it’s 140 mbit/s (or 15 MB/s), Flight Simulator only uses 54 GB per hour. OP is confusing bits and bytes.
It’s still a shit load of data.

5G towers do cause covid. Without 5G my WiFi would be far too shitty to book a cinema seat and get nice and infected by Karen her unvaccinaged crotch goblins.

- Comment on What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know: Concerts Were Cheap For Decades 2 months ago:
If this is true, they’re effectively creating demand by removing a large set of seats from the initial offering pool. This means they can say “tickets are selling fast”, without lying if you include that they’re just referring to the set on sale right now, not the total number of tickets.
This does smell like false advertising though, but I wouldn’t put it past the cracked US legal system for this to be totally legal.

It’s an accessibly feature for those who can’t hold down shift and the key they want to have in uppercase (or the variant, like the exclamation point).
It’s useful for less computer savvy people or those with muscular issues.

Or if we could take nonexistent public transit.
This makes the whole debate so much easier. I work in the train and bike for three minutes. My whole transit is billable and is billed.

You can’t just say “nah, fuck it” and not serve the page.
It’s only illegal if you say “nah, fuck it” when users decline to agree with your data collection terms, but offer it when they do.
This is an identical experience, independent of your (dis)agreement with their policies.

- Comment on Voter ID in England led to racial and disability discrimination, report finds 1 year ago:
I’ve had voter ID for as long as I know, and I’ve been with my parents to vote very often (good educating on their part).
It’s never been an issue, you bring your ID, your voter ticket (which gets sent to you by the govt) and cast a vote. No racism issues there.
It seems the UK has somehow fucked it up.
