The origins don’t matter, every civilization, region, and town made its own system, I’m referring to the fact the the US and the UK are the only developed nations that still USE imperial, when there’s an easier, widespread, more sensible system available right next to it.
-
That’s not a strawman fallacy as I didn’t deny your input by miscategorizing your personal value, if anything it approaches a bad reason fallacy or an antecedent denial fallacy, but it’s neither because we both made our points of view on separate foundational assumed beliefs without addressing proofs or evidence. One could also throw an appeal to emotion or an appeal to ridicule fallacy in there with my silly joke about imperial units but we’re not debating a verifiable, objective truth. Neither are we attempting to find some higher level of human understanding of our spaient peoples world, we’re just wasting time on an internet forum, as in “they’re just opinions, man.”
-
Every unit of measure that humans created to measure the world we live in, like metric and imperial, is human-intuition centric first. Imperial units were created just as formally, and informally, as metric. The imperial system is based on a different system, based on another system, that was based on the science at the time used for pharmaceutical, military, and crafting applications. Just because imperial used hands and feet of SOME guy doesn’t make it less or more arbitrary than the measure of “one liter of water.” A system, based on a system, based on science at the time that is just easier to understand in the base 10 system we live in.
-
The 0 - 100 hot-cold argument for Fahrenheit is just incorrect. It was made by SOME GUY and 0° was the freezing point of HIS brine in HIS basement. 0 F° isn’t cold, it’s deadly, and 100 F° is not. That seems just as arbitrary as 0 - 40 C°. If the scale was the same people would actually refer to Celcius as -32 - 40 C° instead, and that’s just not the case. Decimals are not scary, they’re equally simple to use by any person who uses the base 10 system, unless the argument is that people who use Fahrenheit also struggle to make change when handling money.
-
Measurements are not one-to-one comparable to language, but when most people who are familiar with both tell you that one is clearly superior, and most of the world’s educated people agree, and it’s an easier system for children to understand, then it’s fairly safe to call one system better. Maybe some languages are better at one thing than another, but language is interpretive, flowing, changing, adaptable. Measurements are not, they need to be universally, unambiguously understood.

Metric is very relatable if you just, use it, just like imperial.
The only difference is metric is also easy to scale up or down, imperial is pure “fee-fees”
Your implication that metric is not humanistically intuitive is just bonkers when you consider 99.125% of the developed world just uses metric for their every day, always, with no issue.
Germans, Koreans, and Indians aren’t suddenly going “oh no! I can’t measure these shoes and these plates! I only have SCIENCE numbers, not BaldEagleBananaBurgerFreedom™ numbers!”

It’s like in games where you can stand in fire and not get hurt or there’s an invisible wall preventing you from running off a cliff.
Everyone made a comment about it, the devs said “okay, you can kys if you like now,” and now you can die by fire and jump off that cliff!

No Man’s Sky is like Minecraft in the way that it has so much hate from people who either don’t “get why people like it” or say “it’s so shallow,” but the game is just full of charm and it is what you make of it.
It has a loose story, interesting lore, and otherwise a huge universe (heh) in which you just do what you want to do.
It’s space legos.

Photoshop, not technically AI because it’s older.
Also, if a lift like this failed this catastrophically it would not look like that at all, the top of the car would be squashed and the bottom would just be flattened upwards.
It isn’t being lifted up by a single line in the middle of the vehicle, It’s four separate arms placed around the rectangular frame of the car.
Also fluids, fluids everywhere.

Marine Biologist: You can’t kill a 13 year old girl, no one actually becomes a marine biologist, they just all want to.
Sociologist: Trick them into going to a psychology convention, the crowd will do the work for you.
Psychologist: See above, reverse it. Might be harder to trick, tell them someone in there said they’re just an anthropologist who’s bad at math.
Anthropologist: Take away their teaching license, can no longer feed themselves because no one else is hiring them.

It’s a good goal. I was raised religious but actually left dogmatic religion precisely because I read the bible, and then parts of other religious literature from other faiths.
To me, it’s often too “of the times.” It doesn’t grow, and doesn’t stand up to the scrutiny of time

It could be counted as IP infringement, corporate espionage, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, trademark abuse, and I’m sure various other things an actual lawyer would know.
I hate large companies and corporations, I think Nintendo is extremely horrible with a lot of their practices, especially regarding abandonware, archiving, and emulation, but when someone commits various crimes, especially unapologetically and without a just cause, they’re still a criminal.
This is a case of a selfish prick of a man being a criminal against a selfish prick of a company.

Honestly, in legal paperwork, consult the laws.
In everyday conversation, it’s what you feel.
I was born in South America, moved to the US when I was a child. I’m an adult now, my main language is English, I think in English, I grew up here, I have a life here.
If someone asked “what” I am, I say “I’m american, but I was born in South America.” It can be either a fun conversation, or a filter for judgy people I don’t want around me.
If I moved to Germany, I would still say I’m an American, because it’s the culture I know, the place I grew up, the identity I choose.
I don’t deny my heritage, I still enjoy Salteñas once a month with my family, I speak Spanish to my son to make sure he doesn’t forget it, I look Hispanic, I still have fond memories of being a child in another country, but I never say I’m “Bolivian-American,” because by circumstances of life I just have more identity of my life, here.
