- Comment on What's the point of the "Airport Security" (aka: TSA) in the USA? Does the "Airport Security" ever actually scare away potential terrorists? 2 days ago:
It’s a Swiss cheese model of risk management.
Alone, each layer (slice) of the security system has holes. But, when you put more layers on top (each with their own holes) some of the holes are now covered. Add more layers, and cover more holes.
In an airport, it is not just TSA but also cameras doing pattern recognition in the airport for suspicious activity, add into the mix complex national security measures and you would hope there is sufficient layers/coverage to stop most serious cases.

Sure, nuclear energy is valid and all, but you sound like an absolute spanner…
If you want to argue that nuclear energy has its place, maybe don’t ridicule people who remember how much of an issue the last major nuclear meltdown was (and partially is).

It was a marketing piece and it did its job incredibly well. Few people in the world don’t recognise it on sight (unfortunately).

Insurance should cover everyone for everything and should remain affordable for all.

It’s about the perceived drug use (namely ecstasy) within the electronic music scene. Amsterdam, because of its ports and proximity to western Europe, became a hub for typically higher quality drugs.

To be fair, this is pretty much the story of any right wing politician too… at least this girl (arguably) didn’t ruin the lives of millions.

Obviously, more plants are needed to combat the destructive USB industry.

I’ve also seen it used in usability design, where it is helpful to provide users relatable information (e.g apply equivalent force to the weight of a 1kg bag)
- Comment on Thwack 7 months ago:
I have often seen kg-force to mean the weight component only, assuming gravity is 9.8m/s^2.
- Comment on Thwack 7 months ago:
Just making sure you understood ‘g’ here is grams (so 1 kg or 9.8 N) and not 1000 G as in the force of gravity (which would be 9800 N / kg).

You need an incredibly robust quality management system to even achieve certification (allowing you to place on the market) when creating systems which include life support function, or functions which potentially could kill a user. All potential changes both within and outside of the manufacturers’ control MUST be assessed and constantly monitored so such issues CANNOT arise.
No one should be able to legally place an unsafe app on the market, or legally perform changes to the app without the necessary checks and balances.
Medical device approvals in most countries are definitely not the wild west. Although they are not perfect.
