The modern mind is in complete disarray. Knowledge has stretched itself to the point where neither the world nor our intelligence can find any foot-hold. It is a fact that we are suffering from nihilism.

Oh, and while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lenin read a book on Marx
A quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died

It’s a real bummer interviewing these external applicants that you know won’t get the job. Like I wish I could just let them know, but we’re required to go through the entire interview process.
- Comment on Is martial arts really that useful? 1 month ago:
My two cents having practiced several.
Almost all of them are useful in that they are a form of physical activity. They can keep you in good shape, and can also help you develop discipline.
Many are more art than practical. Arts like krav maga or kali are more geared towards practical use (self defense).
There is also a thing you can generally think of as “energy” that arts may have that often trend to make them not very practical against arts outside of themselves. For example, if a wing chun practitioner attempts to trap with you, and you’re a boxer, it just doesn’t work. It’s somewhat about range, but also the general “feel” of the art as well. JKD attempts to deal with this by teaching different arts that can be used within different ranges.
My one instructor also likened martial arts to technology, saying that they must evolve over time or just end up becoming ineffective for self defense.
The best thing to do in a situation, if you can, is to just escape. Your wallet is not worth your life.

60mph/97kmh is not that fast, though. 90mph/157kmh is pretty fast.

I think the reason people are saying that Fahrenheit “feels” right is because we use a base 10 number system. 1-10 and 0%-100% feel right to us because of this. If you somehow knew nothing about each temperature unit, but you did know base 10, I feel like Fahrenheit would be more intuitive. Obviously if you grew up with Celsius that would feel normal.
Disclaimer: I feel like the US needs to adopt metric already. It’s so much better.

I’d love for the first Dr. Doom in the MCU to just be the Victor Von Doom we know from the comics. After that, sure, bring on the alternate reality versions.

I have a Pixel. I did not realize how bad this gets until work made me take an iPhone as my work phone. Holy hell. No amount of “Delete and report as junk” helps.

I don’t know how I feel about this. I’ve seen so many terrible iterations of Dr. Doom in prior movies, and I just want a well done Doom because he’s one of my favorite characters. I’m trying to picture Doom speaking like RDJ and it just really throws me off.

100%. Really, just go do something other than what you’ve been focusing on, then come been to it. When I was coding, I would go take a walk when I’d get stuck. 9 times out of ten the answer would pop into my head when I’d stepped away. A few times I even dreamed of the answer while sleeping.

I’d, like, actually study and stuff. I don’t necessarily beat myself up for not studying back then. I just don’t think I was ready for it.
