- Comment on How come soccer and tennis never caught on in the states? Also why hasn't there been an NFL team vs a Soccer Team and vice versa. Just to prove which is the better sport? Details inside. 2 days ago:
I can very slightly speak to this. But like from a beer league, geriatric sort if way. I play indoor soccer, but I also did pickup football games when I was a teenager. I am old now. Like middle aged I guess. As is most of my team. (1970’s baby’s). We are a very average team in our division. In a ten week season we typically win 5 or 6 games. Sometimes only two or three.
A couple sessions ago a team of similar aged football players made an indoor soccer team. They were larger than everyone, chopped everyone down, physically won most 1v1 battles. However, we obliterated them. Like 9-3 one game 11-4 another. We just kept passing around and they kept running at 10/10ths until they were gassed.
Now when I was playing football, you would only play me at RB or WR. Fast, quick yes. But a linebacker would wreck me. Build a whole team of guys like me and, well likely strip sacks on most plays. Diversity of si, R in the NFL is hard to see on TV, but offensive linemen are like 330lbs. Some wrs are like 180lbs. You don’t see that variance in soccer.
In short. The sports aren’t comparable.
- Comment on Is there a FOSS version of Waze or Google Maps? 2 months ago:
I believe Murena Maps is working on implementing traffic data. I don’t love their turn by turn, but if they do get traffic data, I’ll use it.

With valve implementing an arm emulator, it feels to me like that’s going to really tip the scales going forward.
- Comment on What launcher should I replace Nova with? 4 months ago:
Really hard to beat the Fossify launcher. Very similar to vanilla android, available on F-Droid… Far superior to /e/os having icons scattered everywhere.

This question deserves better reaponses. If you can’t or don’t want to self host, Tidal and Qobuz are probably the best alternatives. Tidal doesn’t do podcasts though so if you need to replace that as well, take a look at Antenna pod which as a bonus is available on F-Droid.

K, but that ice cream is delicious… So…
- Comment on Is anyone NOT steaming their Music? 8 months ago:
I also use Tidal, their recommendations aren’t as good as spotify, but they also don’t pay Joe Rogan. Also I did a sound quality comparison between the two and most of Tidal’s audio were better. Though every once in a while I run into a weird quality song.
For all you spotify peeps that don’t want to feed the fascist machine, checkout Tidal or Qobuz. You can use the service called tunemymusic to transfer your playlists. One month was like $5.

Just got an email from Murena that /e/os is available for the fp6.

Lenovo will sell you a thinkpad with you’re favorite distro preinstalled. I bought an X1 carbon with fedora 38 on it. BIOS updates and all.

Ahh interesting, and that’s a valid point. I’d love to read up more on that.

Is this not true? Why the downvoters?
- Comment on [deleted] 11 months ago:
If you’re importing a FP5, just wipe it and put Murena /e/os on it. Then it won’t matter

Look man, I worked at a very large dairy farm. Don’t send me you tube links, I saw how it went down. Don’t kid yourself, there isn’t a cruelty free way to slaughter creatures.

Lol as opposed to… Any other type of meat? I don’t think any meat where they are raised to be shot in the head in an assembly line is “cruelty free” I used to work for a fairly well known dairy company. Guess what happens to baby boy cows.
You just happen to be aware of foi gras and how they are raised/slaughtered.

I hired a nutritionist for a while specifically for soccer. She sent me a chart, that I don’t have handy of course that basically gives you a 4 hour window of how to eat.
4 hours before, a medium amount of low fat protein and a large amount of carbs. Add a bit of sodium/potassium.
3hours before less protein about the same carbs.
2hours before no protein only carbs
1 hour if you have too, only carbs. Example here is granola, or edamame.
In all cases it’s easier to avoid meat based protein before, as they are too high in fat.
Post game eat a large amount of protein and a large amount of carbs. Replace your electrolytes with something like coconut water as it has a lot more than gatorade. (Magnesium for example)
Personal examples, Ive found these fig bars from Costco that have 3g fiber and 3g protein, are small so they fit in my gym bag easy. I’ll eat them pre gane, and these wafer protein bars that actually taste good for post game. If I remember I’ll edit the post for them. Body Armor literally from costco, is the best sports drink I’ve found, minimal sugar, tastes fine and has the most electrolytes diversity.

- Comment on Are cars with AWD worth it compared to FWD. 1 year ago:
Going to add to the climate argument, but thrown in a personal realization. I used to only buy rwd manual sporty cars but put snow tires on them in the winter. This was fine until I moved to a location that rains 9 months per year.
It was then I realized heavy torque, rwd was miserable here regardless of the tire choice. I’ve been buying AWD since. But it took me basically a decade to figure that out.
FWIW I still put snow tires on in the Winter, but I ski.
