I agree with all your points. Just wanted to add that for bicycling, the OsmAnd app is superior to Google Maps, simply because the Google Map app doesn’t honor modified routes.
On the desktop, Google Maps lets you map bicycle directions, but they’re absolute trash. Dangerous routes when it could have preferred a bike route or greenway, not understanding that sometimes you have to become a pedestrian for a few feet and use a crosswalk, or cross a patch of dirt, etc. And you have to force it into a safer route by adding the “drag to change route” dots and dragging them to the roads it should have used. However, if you share that route URL with the Google Maps app, it ignores all the changes and reverts to the bad route.
So instead I have to put that URL into GPS Visualizer and convert it to a GPX which OsmAnd honors. There are other GPX conversion websites too, but I’ve noticed subtle changes to my route when I was using those other sites.
All this could be avoided if the Google Maps app would just honor the desktop URLs, but it’s been this way for years so I doubt it will ever happen.

Yep, one cafe in Kyoto said that they were by reservation only and I’d have to come back the next day. The entire cafe was empty except for one Japanese couple. Was immediately obvious what was going on.

Although even if revealed with a translation app, I still wouldn’t want to eat there, because why reward xenophobia.

The placebo effect is scientific and real. It’s so well established that when they are testing medicines they test them against placebo and track the placebo healing rates, because the drug needs to statistically heal better than the placebo healed.

It still counts. Just because someone else has a complete lack of any moral center or humanity doesn’t mean that we should cast ours aside too and join them.

Celebrating the death of another is bad actually, yes. And it does make you a bad person. You don’t have to mourn the dead if they’re scum. Speak ill of them all you want. But to celebrate another’s death takes it a step further. It means you’re severely lacking in humanity, in empathy. You’ve left civility completely behind. It lowers you to the same level of those you despise, and perhaps even lower. Are you a person that only has hate and bitterness in your heart? Change that so you can actually enjoy the better and brighter future that you hope for.

Warning: this works reliably until you’re about 45. Then it doesn’t quite finish the job anymore.

Perhaps I’m visualizing it differently than the reality, but that seems insufficient, because someone could be using a urinal while another slides open the door, and then a woman or child could see in and freak out. I think it would need to be set up so that no business can be seen even with no doors. Basically a 90 degree turn at some point. I’m sure it’s doable, though.
