- Comment on What are we being distracted from? 5 days ago:
Everything is a distraction from everything else. I doubt any specific catastrophe is planned, particularly as a distraction, but the cumulative effect is deliberate. The faster they go and the more chaotic everything gets, the harder it is to stay focused to stop them. See Bannon’s “muzzle velocity” theory

I saw a post on Mastodon about it, but a cursory search didn’t turn it up. I’ll look a bit more later and see if I can find it

They’re already banning trans women just for being trans
- Comment on [US] How are so many people able to protest? (Logistically) 2 weeks ago:
In the US, you usually only get paid time off if you’re in a full-time, salaried position. Even then, most people only get two or three weeks, and it accrues over time, so you have to save it up for winter holidays, etc
- Comment on How to stay sane in a hostile environment that you can't get out of? 2 weeks ago:
Find ways to be anywhere but that environment as much as possible. Volunteer for something, join a club or sports team, or just hang out at the library. Being out of that environment will help you clear your mind. Use that time to start making plans to create your own safe place where you can exist independently. It might take time to get there, depending on the resources available to you, but small steps over time add up.

They tried to do this at my workplace, and the union filed a grievance that work was being taken from the landscapers. The union won, so no sheep for us.

Nope.
- Comment on Does each country have a book/library of the laws of the land that a commoner can consult to check if they're about to do something illegal? 1 month ago:
Oh yeah, definitely! Even in legal states, if you’re on federal property (like National Forests), possession is still a crime. Gotta be careful with stuff like that
I meant that they aren’t arguing over it as in the DOJ isn’t suing states over having legalized it. Although if I recall correctly, the Obama admin DEA did conduct raids on medicinal dispensaries in states where it was legal
It gets weird and messy fast
- Comment on Does each country have a book/library of the laws of the land that a commoner can consult to check if they're about to do something illegal? 1 month ago:
Yep. But when two laws are in conflict, the higher law wins. So state laws supersede local laws, and federal laws beat state laws. Of course, there is also weirdness where the higher body might just choose not to argue with the lower body over conflicting laws, like with cannabis legalization.

In probably sixth grade, four of my friends held me to the ground, one on each arm and leg, while a fifth brought the girl I liked over and told her I had something I wanted to ask her.
- Comment on Is gold investing a scam? 2 months ago:
Almost always yes, it is a scam. Theoretically, it’s a hedge against inflation, but in practice, it’s just grifters selling it to paranoid right wingers
- Comment on If the US was partitioned, what new states would you want to appear? 2 months ago:
I think it would be neat to have states conglomerate around shared bioregions. Like a new country made up of the Great Lakes states, for example. Maybe add some Canadian provinces too? Like if you made the Great Lakes Charter into a country
