There are residential neighborhoods in cities though, where straight roads with roundabouts and other traffic calming makes more sense than a curving a road, for the purposes of lowering driving speeds.
- Comment on It hurts. 2 weeks ago:
There’s a flipside too though. Straight lines aren’t great for suburbs for the speed reason, but once you reach enough density and the roads get narrow enough, grids make planning easier, and navigating easier for pedestrians. Roundabouts are a nice way to slow traffic through straight roads
- Comment on It hurts. 2 weeks ago:
Only from above. When you’re on foot, grid systems feel plenty variable and lively

Yeah, that’s probably a fair assumption
- Comment on How to stop a parent from jumping into the nearest religious rabbit-hole to cope with a divorce? 2 weeks ago:
Isn’t divorce only a sin for Catholics who don’t get it annulled? I thought divorce was more acceptable among Protestants

Noooo, FCC, this isn’t a router, it’s just a computer with 6 network interfaces
- Comment on Theoretically speaking, if one wanted to sail the seas while being not very tech savvy – is using a VPN (Mullvad) enough? I would never, of course… but theoretically? 4 weeks ago:
Yep, binding Mullvad as the network interface should do it!

Fr. I’m just as worried about AI and automation as anyone, but it’s amazing how fast people were to come up with a slur for robots. I don’t think it’s a good impulse

There is a strong overlap between furries and IT professionals. I’d go so far as to argue that the presence of furries in an online community is a sign that it’s a healthy one.

- Comment on What are we being distracted from? 2 months ago:
Everything is a distraction from everything else. I doubt any specific catastrophe is planned, particularly as a distraction, but the cumulative effect is deliberate. The faster they go and the more chaotic everything gets, the harder it is to stay focused to stop them. See Bannon’s “muzzle velocity” theory

I saw a post on Mastodon about it, but a cursory search didn’t turn it up. I’ll look a bit more later and see if I can find it

They’re already banning trans women just for being trans
- Comment on [US] How are so many people able to protest? (Logistically) 2 months ago:
In the US, you usually only get paid time off if you’re in a full-time, salaried position. Even then, most people only get two or three weeks, and it accrues over time, so you have to save it up for winter holidays, etc
- Comment on How to stay sane in a hostile environment that you can't get out of? 2 months ago:
Find ways to be anywhere but that environment as much as possible. Volunteer for something, join a club or sports team, or just hang out at the library. Being out of that environment will help you clear your mind. Use that time to start making plans to create your own safe place where you can exist independently. It might take time to get there, depending on the resources available to you, but small steps over time add up.
