  A similar experience I had was when I saw my mom cry and pay respects to my grandpa for the last time as he was sent to be cremated.

  I respected my grandfather but as we lived half way across the world, I wasn’t emotionally attached to him and didn’t feel very sad. But seeing my mom, usually a very silly lady and a very strong, loving grandma herself, turn into a daughter saying goodbye to her dad in tears for that split second broke my heart.

  I mean, trees grow back sucking up carbon as they grow and you can recycle these things. Whereas ewaste is a much trickier, and probably way more toxic, issue. Not to mention no paper company mogul is going around building data centres and funding fascists around the world… that I know of anyway.

  Anecdotal account, so please take with a big grain of salt.

  I want to add to support your position: even in Japan, we’re seeing sections dedicated to PC gaming in normie electronics stores. It might not be the dominant platform yet, but it’s definitely gaining mainstream acceptance with Twitch streamers becoming more prominent as well. It’s slow, but it’s happening even in the land of consoles.

  The Japanese changed a lot of hanzi to make it easier. The Chinese reaaaally simplified their hanzi to a point that I, as a native Japanese speaker, find it hard to decipher. With traditional Chinese, even with the more complex strokes, I can sorta make sense of signs and even some snippets from a newspaper article.

  Also note that even though each character might have the same-ish meaning across languages, we might use different combinations to describe a word.
