Cory Doctorow wrote about Amway on his blog this month. His podcast is worth listening to. One of those obsessive writers who always has something to say about current events and how they relate to history.

Just a heads up with exetel. Their billing system has bugs. They’re chasing me for bills I actually paid. Going to have to put the ombudsman onto them. Their billing team is very hostile. Aussie broadband is more expensive but has better support.

Went to an Aussie bush doof as a teenager and had some Americans come smoke bongs with me at my camp site. They were dressed up as ninja turtles. After a while I realised one of them had his plums hanging out his shorts and they were painted green. Americans love taking things too far.

Ask yourself where the habit comes from. And then try to think back to a time when you didn’t have that habit, and how you felt. I do the same thing. For me it came from a place of validation.

Be careful combining patches and gum. I use gum and the nicotine hit can be pretty strong. It’s a stronger effect than smoking. Remember to park it in your cheek instead of chewing or you’ll get a tummy ache.

I used the bokashi bins for a while. Super effective. I dumped the finished product into a compost bin. I ended up with a compost bin that was so full of black soldier fly larvae it seemed to develop its own consciousness. I had to move house but that thing could have been my superannuation fund.

I recommend the TV series. Christopher Lee plays Flay. If you like Mervyn Peake you should check out China Mieville.

Someone smashed up my really nice bike recently. I had it parked in Melbourne’s inner west. I suspect it was due to spite because of wealth inequality. Thing is I’m not wealthy, I just got it at an auction for a bargain. I’ve never owned a car, and wanted to get a nice bike for the first time, in my 30s. Now I feel I can’t even have that one nice thing in public.

I love the scene where brad Pitt beats up the Bruce Lee character. I was watching that today. The woman who tells him off was in death proof. That scene where the girls beat up Kurt Russell at the end is so triumphant.

Most people forget childhood memories. Having photos can trigger memories. Also, if you’re a smoker I’ve found it dulls childhood memory. When I quit and get my sense of smell back it triggers memories. Early life memories are strongly linked to smell.

Also picking up guitar again and learning Spirit Caravan songs. No amp but guitarix doesn’t sound bad through studio monitors.

Yes, which is why I find it hard to play games these days. Even reading books is a challenge after reading code all day, but my current down time activity is trying to read through the complete works of George Orwell. Reading Homage to Catalonia and really enjoying it.

I don’t have anything against OF or sex work, but I’ve always though that negative judgements against clients suggest a negative judgement against the service provider. If the act of providing the service is OK then surely the act of receiving the service is also morally sound? Unless the service provider has a morally ambivalent attitude to their own work? I say this as someone who had a long term partner doing sex work. Contempt for clients seems unfair and possibly hypocritical. Just people trying to satisfy a biological and emotional need.

Do the dishes bit by bit. Rinse and stack, then wash a few when you make a coffee. Makes it less of task for me at least.
