Being more educated doesn’t make llms more useful. Being less educated doesn’t make them less fun.
Problem with them is the magnitude of the push vs their usefulness. There was no need for that massive of scaling. It’s all “we must get all the investor money before we have to raise prices to become profitable”.
If there was any education behind making those slopcenters, they wouldn’t make them gas powered in a desert.

- Comment on How is RAM size measured? Why doesn't it match the marketed size? 4 weeks ago:
RAM and cpus use the proper 1024 B to kB to MB to GB. Unlike hdd makers that paid ISO to retroactively make it 1000. Or worse internet providers that use bits (b) instead of bytes (B) (reasoning that signal transmission uses bits).
It’s definitely the kernel and bios reserving pieces. They need it to run the computer, after all. Afaik even other hardware can reserve memory for itself, like gpus or network devices.

I got a knife my grandfather used, that has been sharpened so much it looks like a fillet knife. Ergonomics? It cuts, I don’t care. It’s a good reserve.
Good point about dimples though. But thinking about it why wouldnt I be able to sharpen it? A knife’s like 2mm thick while a dimple is idk I don’t have one such knife, but it’s probably less then 0.3mm and the edge obviously tapers.
- Comment on Need a AI update 5 weeks ago:
Stuff sticks to knives because they are flat. They need to have dimples for stuff not to stick. Even with ultrasonic vibrations things will stick because things are elastic and sucktion.
I doubt this knife has the power for its vibrations to make a meaningfull difference in cutting.
That’s my opinion at least.

Not really. It’s up to the software, soundcard, and/or recording.
Stereo headphones are surround. The reason laptop speakers are not is because they are in front of you. Headphones are one for each ear, separate.
Our brain is very sensitive to phase difference between sound in either ear. That is how we can tell sound direction. It’s like triangulation, except the third variable is the shape of our ears (is it comming from the front or the back, see HRTF again).
There is no such thing as surround headphones. There can not even be such a thing. All headphones are surround. It’s either sound card drivers, software in the chain, or just marketing. Get “normal” headphones and check out some directional audio videos on youtube.
Openal is an audio library used by some older games and they patched HRTF into it to make it sound even more surround.
Decent headphones that are comfortable are better then even more expensive full room setups, although just for one person.

Stereo headphones are surround sound. It’s how ears work. You percieve position by how late the sound comes to one ear compared to the other. There is a bit more, but I don’t want to write on the phone more. Google HRTF for that part.

I walk my dog every day around sundown. That’s way too dark. Maybe if the air is so clean and dry that it doesn’t scatter light as much, but that is impossible because lake and forrest.
And it’s a game. Lighting should depend on mood more then reality (even in movies they add impossible lights everywhere).
Still nice you understand what they call “PBR”.
