- Comment on As The Outer Worlds 2 hits $80, director says "we don't set the prices for our games" and wishes "everybody could play" Obsidian's new RPG 5 days ago:
Some games, some are on cart too. Switch 1 is actually probably the best because just about every game is fully playable unlike ps and Xbox which require patches often to run alright. Switch 2 I hear cyberpunk is fully on the cart, but I doubt many publishers are willing to pay for the bigger carts, so we’ll probably see a lot of third parties be just the key, which is ridiculous.

It’s great, I can lend my friend the games he doesn’t have, and I can do the same with his games. In this way, we can play many more games than we have the money for.
- Comment on 10 incredible PC games that never got console ports—until Steam Deck happened 5 days ago:
Same, and now this is the second mention of it I’ve seen on lemmy in two weeks. I got it for like $5 in a combo pack with a terrible mech game in the bargain bin in Walmart probably 20+ years ago. Never beat it, but the vibes are top notch and I replay it every few years. Still have the disks and all.

There’s these things called consoles, that let you put a disk in, they both contains the game and a license to play it.

- Comment on Company agrees to 4-day week at full pay—worker reveals dramatic result 2 weeks ago:
My job does 4.5 days at full pay during summer, and it is so goddamn liberating. I actually have time to do things, I have more energy because I can take extra time to rest after completing my weekend tasks, I can get into doctors without missing work and having to make it up later. Genuinely, fighting for 4 day week, 8 hour days, and full 40 hour pay should be higher on the labor movements priority list, like it was when we won the 40 hour week in the first place.

It did at one point, but I think they were forced to change it to Prey at some point in development. It had a “Shock” title to put it in line with System Shock and Bioshock.

Can’t say for certain because I’ve never used it, but I’ve heard of a concept called promissory estoppel that might apply in situations like this.

A dockworker driving their machine remotely using low latency tech like they’re using in remote surgeries could very well be more productive remote, but we won’t know until we try.

Many of the people who would have been criminalized for minor things like smoking cannabis to cope with the horrific work culture and thus are ineligible for work visas to most of the world. Many of those with the resources to do so have bought into the system and don’t know what the rest of the world is like, and there’s another group who just think the US is swell and everyone else is jealous of us and trying to come here.

It’s not, really. It would be easy to implement at any company that makes a decent profit margin. Productivity goes up with shorter working hours, anyway.

Smear and ghosting are bad on VA in my experience. I had one around when Miles Morales first came out and it was so bad I thought my tv was broken, and Samsung agreed and sent a guy to replace the panel. The new panel did the same thing though, and at that point I just sold it and bought an OLED.
- Comment on Alarm as Florida Republicans move to fill deported workers’ jobs with children: ‘It’s insane, right?’ 2 months ago:
Perhaps it’s more that the extremist rhetoric of the opposition that denigrated them and elevated war criminals wasn’t the best way to motivate the masses of impoverished and disillusioned people to vote for them.

Less than a third voted for him, too. Millions are disenfranchised and millions more recognize that there is no correlation between desires and outcomes when it comes to voting.

I was driving this weekend, a truck turned onto the road ahead of me, stayed stopped in the right hand land until I got near to them, then slammed on the gas spewing a massive cloud of filth that entirely enveloped my car. Thankfully my wife and I noticed it beforehand and rolled our windows up.

Yep that’s the one I saw there I think. Drone goes into a little kiosk and then you pick it up from the claim window thing.

Naps. I sleep like 6-8 hours a night usually, and then I take a nap basically as soon as I get home. I find I have more functional time this way, even when I end up sleeping more than 9-10 hours, because I’m more refreshed and ready to go.
- Comment on Private Equity Firm Bought My Employer 1 year ago:
Private equity will suck as much money out of the company as they can until it starts to fail and then they’ll sell it. Firing employees and making others do their work for no extra pay, if you have patents they’ll sell those, close facilities and force everyone into smaller spaces… literally nothing is off limits. Idk how much is publicly available, but if it is you can look at Avaya for an example. Went from being literally the biggest supplier of phones in the world with the majority of patents on applications for telecom technology to going bankrupt and having to restructure. They’re now on a single floor in a shitty building and most work has been outsourced.

I still don’t know how it happened, but my oldest little brother and I had this pair of walkie-talkies that would pick up this adult dudes phone conversations regularly on a specific channel, and we would troll him so hard. I kinda feel bad now, but not really because it’s a great memory.

My little Gen A brother calls his friends who watch it “super brainrot”. I like to tease him by calling things skibidi sometimes because I’m finally old enough to be the one getting the eye roll for using slang incorrectly and it’s truly hilarious.

It’s not no matter what. It’s under the system we have they are not only not punished for doing so, they are heavily incentivized to do so. There are ways to punish bad actors that de-incentivize other potential bad actors, our politicians actively choose to prioritize these bad actors ability to do harm over the well being of the population.
- Comment on ‘Mad Max’: The feud between Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy that George Miller wanted to avoid between the stars of ‘Furiosa’ 1 year ago:
So the feud was that Tom Hardy is a diva removed and Theron is a professional and didn’t accept him being a tool and wasting everyone else’s time and money. Sounds like he deserved every minute of what he got and then some.
- Comment on Gabe Newell, the Man Behind Steam, Is Working on a Brain-Computer Interface 1 year ago:
This is rather old news, predating Neuralink entirely even. There used to be an unlisted YouTube video by Gray(Grey?) Newell that showed off what they were working on back a few years ago, too.
