There’s two variants. One is extremely harmless and is generally oral. This is the one that nearly everyone has and no one really notices. The other variant is generally genital (though either one can be in either place) and is more severe and less common. The first outbreak can be really bad, subsequent ones less so. An estimated 1 in 10 adults in the US have it, though I’d imagine it skews a lot more towards highly sexually active communities. It can be transmitted even if you don’t actively have sores, though that’s much rather. Condoms also don’t prevent transmission, though again they make it much more unlikely. While getting it certainly doesn’t have to be the end of the world it is worse than they generally say.

Telling people it’s no big deal is doing them a direct misservice. By all means it should be destimized but you should also be honest about the risks and realities of what it can mean. What happened to me might be a worse case scenario but the average first breakout is still way worse than you would have people believe, and people should know what can actually happen. I’m so sick of people being dismissive of it
- Comment on Anon contracts herpes 2 weeks ago:
Hey, it’s 1 in 10 for the genital version in the U.S. Not common. When someone dismissively says “oh it’s not that bad, it’s not the end of the world”, they’re not the ones who had to deal with pain of taking shots with sores in their ass. To deal with having a hard time being able to tell the difference between gas, liquid, and solids knocking at the door while on stool softeners to help make shots less painful. The fact is, it’s debilitated me mentally and physically. The scarring from it has taken all the pleasure away from anal for me, and it still hurts to shit half the time. Don’t treat it so fucking lightly.

In the metaphor, the black hole is nihilistic, all-consuming, apathetic depression, and I just want to stop struggling, let everything fall apart and fall in and kill myself
- Comment on How are you feeling? 5 weeks ago:
My brain is like a planet with a very thin crust with a black hole inside. Everything I am is built on this extremely delicate shell of stability, and sometimes it seems like I spend most of my time clinging to the edge after having fallen through. Medication makes the shell thicker and more stable, but there’s still a black hole in my head and it’s never going to go away and I’m so tired of fighting falling in.

In high school I would have people ask me out. If you say yes, what a fucking loser you thought I was serious? If you say no, then you’re gay and you should kill yourself. It’s funny because you can see the divide in this thread between people fucked up by high school and people who find getting fucked up by high school unthinkable

That’s what’s nice about dual booting! You can add a hard drive and use both! Easy to set up so you can choose to launch windows or Linux when it boots up! Gives you the opportunity to play around and get a feel for it without giving up your tried and tested setup!

I can help you through a fedora install, I just did it for the first two times myself. If you want to dual boot, it’s easiest to have windows set up first too, so you’re in good shape for that

I mean, your hole shouldn’t be sore in the morning unless you’re sizing up with a new plug. Especially not with a stereotypical conical thin necked black silicone one. I’ve slept with plugs with a neck diameter of like 1.25" before

Better than nothing 🤷♀️
Feeling powerless and useless and shitty and need to do something to make the world a more positive place, no matter how tiny. I cast big squishy trans pride silicone six sided dice and gave them away at a board game convention and the happiness that brought some people is one of the things keeping me alive tbh, more literally than most people would like to know about.

I do appreciate some nuance and unity between sane people! I think the current happenings are introducing significantly more corruption and being quite open about it, it was certainly a problem before but the degeneration is massively accelerating. We can only hope sanity and ethics prevail and musk and trump lose power, and a more stringent anti-corruption culture arises from it. I don’t think it’s likely, but we can hope. I think it’s far more likely that trump finds a way to stay in power and regardless of whether or not he does the structure and landscape of us government will be set up in such a way as to keep musk in defacto “leadership”.
I hope things will turn out well, but with so much power in the hands of people who are not only extremely unethical but motivated to change the status quo to keep themselves in power, I have a hard time seeing how things could improve from here.

I try not to be an asshole, but how much of a fucking dumbass can you be. It isn’t about government bloat, it never has been, if it WAS they would be tackling the military industrial complex. They instead have made the richest asshole on the planet the defacto president and are letting him ransack the government. How can you not see that they are literally taking your tax dollars and letting musk shovel them directly into his own pockets. If you were on a sinking ship I bet you’d be happy about it.

They don’t innovate because they barely have any competition
You can hate steam all you want, and people fanboying over them can be pretty annoying, but this is, imo, demonstrably false. They’ve pretty consistently been innovating and trying new things, even when they don’t end up working well. They were very early into voice chat, back in the day your options were more or less skype, possibly mumble, and that pleas pretty much it. Relatively easy, integrated voice chat was was innovative. Similarly, being able to to stream your game to friends. I don’t think this feature ever got all that use and it never worked that well for me, but it was really ahead of it’s time imo. The way they handle family sharing has been both unique and consumer friendly, and also they haven’t just sat on it, they’ve improved it. They’ve implemented a way to play local co-op games remotely even. One of the biggest innovations imo has been how they handle being signed in on multiple computers and being able to stream games from one computer to another. Hell, they’ve even innovated with hardware, with the steam link being very ahead of it’s time in that regard. I’m not going to mention proton, steamOS and the deck, someone else surely has or will.
Look, we should never trust a company to be ethical or feel like they’re a friend or one our side or shit like that, but I do appreciate how much new stuff they’ve pushed for over the years
