- Comment on Two in one stupidish question- Debate about United Healthcare CEO and best place to have it 7 hours ago:
I think the issue I’ve been grappling with is, where do we draw the line as to what is an ‘acceptable’ murder? Like what if another Healthcare CEO is killed, but they’re violently knifed to death? Are we still celebrating then? What if they’re shot, but raped first? Are we still printing t-shirts? What if they’re shot, but so is their family? What if innocent passers by also get caught in the cross fire? Do we still cheer for them? What level of mental gymnastics do we have to do to justify something as ‘justice’ vs just plain old ‘murder?’ Where does this take us? Where does that reasoning end?

Because it’s about sending a message. They’ve seen how popular this guy and his actions have become and are trying to throw everything at him so it puts off any copycats.

I mean it doesn’t sound like they’re seeking ‘extra’ work, because Anon is not doing any work at all. I’d argue there’s a difference between ‘extra work’ and ‘any work’.
They’re not meeting expectations either because the expectation for their role is unlikely to be ‘doing fuck all’, the expectation is doing whatever job is outlined in their JD, which they’re demonstrably not.
Again, I don’t really care either way. Do what you can get away with, but be cognisant of the risks, and how that might affect your future employability otherwise you may find yourself doing nothing because you don’t have a job at all.
- Comment on Anon falls through the cracks 5 weeks ago:
Duh, they’re butthurt they fucked up, but also who cares if they’re sympathetic?
If you want to keep the job, you should.
Look, if this works for OP and others, great. More power to them. But the reality is that, in most situations this isn’t going to end up with the whole office applauding you for gaming the system and ‘sticking it to the man’ all whilst your manager looks on dispondantly from the background. It’s going to result in a lot of uncomfortable discussions with HR and you potentially losing your job, or at the very least be given a writen warning. If that’s not a problem then great.
- Comment on Anon falls through the cracks 5 weeks ago:
I’m from the UK. In most working environments there is an expectation of maturity and responsibility. If you don’t have enough work to do there is an expectation that you, as an employee, are responsible and mature enough to ask your manager for more as ultimately that is what you’re being paid to do - work, whether you like that or not. If you have nothing to do, and deliberately do nothing about that then your employer has reasonable grounds to at least raise this as an issue. If you’re not seen as a someone who takes their job seriously, then you may find yourself looking for a new one if your department needs to downsize, for example.
Also, regardless of whether your manager should’ve known or not, that doesn’t mean your not also at fault for not telling them. If you tell them, and nothing changes, then that’s a different story entirely.
Let me put it this way: if your manager turned around and asked what you’ve been doing for the last X months and your response was ‘nothing’ and then tried to pass that off as their fault, I wouldn’t imagine many employers would be too sympathetic to your arguments.
- Comment on Anon falls through the cracks 5 weeks ago:
Problem with that approach is that they will argue that if you didn’t have enough work to do, you should have asked for more. OP knowingly slipped through the cracks to, so the argument of ‘I don’t have a line manager to give me any’ probably isn’t going to cut it as their work will argue that OP should’ve gone to HR to sort their responsibilities as soon as they were aware.

Even a cursory search online provides evidence that that isn’t the case: www.givedirectly.org/2023-ubi-results/#design

- Comment on Ryan Reynolds Writing Non-Marvel Project to Reunite With Hugh Jackman and Director Shawn Levy After ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ 1 month ago:
Yes and no. He’s had more serious roles like Life, Safe House, Buried, Smokin’ Aces etc. He certainly has a ‘type’ but at the moment it feels like you could just lift-and-shift his character from one film to another and noone would notice.
- Comment on Ryan Reynolds Writing Non-Marvel Project to Reunite With Hugh Jackman and Director Shawn Levy After ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ 1 month ago:
I’d like Ryan to return to more serious roles. He’s a decent actor but he just ends up playing the same character in everything at the moment, and he’s getting predictable and typecast imo.

Mixed feeling about this. On one hand Deck Nine have, in my opinion, produced the best LiS content of the series. On the other hand, my opinion of them has soured somewhat since the whole nazi stuff came out: ign.com/…/how-hidden-nazi-symbols-were-the-tip-of…

So whilst I do this myself and 100% believe that multi-tasking like this is a good thing, the one argument I’ve seen which I don’t have a suitable response to is the idea that if you have time to spend on other thing rather than working, you’re not managing your workload correctly. I.e you’re being paid to work, not paid to fill the washing machine, pop to the shops etc. If you find yourself with spare time you should be proactively asking your manager for additional work, rather than goofing off. Same applies for working in the office.

If you liked Odyssey then I’d recommend Origins. Not played Valhalla but it’s in the same open-world vein. People rate Black Flag highly, and the Ezio trilogy, but these are more the ‘traditional’ AC games so not open world in the same way and less ARPG-like than Odyssey. The multiplayer on Black Flag is great to, but not many people playing it these days.
