Damn this hurts. But if you’re already going through this, you might as well start putting yourself out by saying hello to whomever you can.

All this hard work to avoid the hard work of making friends.

Seriously, get a used set of clubs from a yard sale. Practice short game for like a month intensively and then just hang around a cheap golf course looking for 3s needing a fourth. Boom friends. I mean your friends might all be in there 40s with drug, back or wife issues… but they will all have some interesting stories and they will pretty much all be down for whatever if it gets them out of the house and away from adult responsibility.

Also start playing a team sport an amateur, suburban team. You don’t have to be any good at it, you just need to try your best and importantly talk to the other people on your team.

Whoever you are and however weird you are, there is already a weirder regular at your local card/tabletop gaming store. Just don’t show up smelly and you’ll make friends easy.

      This.

Just make sure you’re smelly, polite, and not egocentric, you’ll make friends everywhere

A good dad and a good son doing their best to make each other as happy as they each deserve. Need more of this around here.

It takes so much effort from anon to imitate that he could easily find friends, woman, man, whatever. Nevertheless, it’s touching how he answers his dad’s care about him with that. He’s not lost, he’s just lacking directions.

Hot take, Dad should ask if his kid is even interested in going out and if they are, actually facilitate by helping them find activities they’d be interested in instead of just fucking crying on the couch over whatever imaginary life he imagined for his kid

I remember my parents crying because I couldn't socialize growing up. I was always actively suicidal and couldn't connect with kids my age. I probably would've ended up like anon if I didn't get forced into doing activities.

I remember my parents doing absolutely nothing when I told them I didn’t have friends and I couldn’t socialize. No wonder why now I’m in a different country with minimum contact

Hard to relate to putting in this much effort to not make friends, it’s honestly so much easier than all this extra work to avoid it.
