Mother says I can not cook. And can only order out but she told me that she will give me one WED. in Sept. to cook. And I want to show her I can be on the level of her. Only things I can come up with to impress is buffalo chicken chili kale salad or a 7 layered lasagna. Really asking for help here.
I mean, can you cook? It isn’t like we’re born knowing how, and the learning curve is real. You eat your own food, presumably. Is it good, or just edible?
That matters because if you seek praise, and you can’t tell if you can cook, chances are high that you can’t.
Being a good cook isn’t about recipes. It’s about practice. Doing things over and over until you don’t have to think about timing or ingredients. In terms of your specific idea, have you mastered that dish well enough that your chicken is juicy, safely cooked, and flavorful? That’s going to be the part anyone judgy is going to be right about if they find fault. If you can’t cook the chicken right, the sauce don’t mean shit.
If you can, then those flavors will absolutely slap yo mama in the face and make her ask for more.
Lasagna is easier. Well, more labor intensive, but easier to not fuck up, depending on the stuff in between the pasta. So if you’re just an okay cook, go with that. It’s just a lot more forgiving when trying to feed someone that’s looking for faults. You can still fuck it up, but as long as you don’t go that far, it’s a very filling, satisfying dish.

Whatever you do, don’t make something for the first time. If you’re looking to impress, adding an array of side dishes, like rolls, potatoes, steamed vegetables, green salad, fruit salad etc is much more effective than one really killer main.
