What is my “unpopular opinion” in my comment ?
All I see is me saying that no subjects should be downvotes just for their subject rather than a disagreement on a unpopular opinion.
I’m not saying you should not downvote content you disagree with. I’m saying that no matter what is said about AI it’s getting downvoted for the sole reason that it is about AI.
Again I was not expressing a clearly unpopular opinion around here that AI is good, yet I’m still downvoted just because that conversation is AI adjacent…
I sure hope saying all subjects should be freely talked about as long as its within the rules of that instance is not an unpopular opinion.
And yes, I do think massive downvotes for not even taking a stance or an opinion on a matter is a pretty big disruption of discourse.
- Comment on 1 week ago:
I never talked about promoting it.
Just letting people talk about it without immediately downvoting it.

I’m sure preventing people from talking about AI on Lemmy will stop that plague really quickly.
I have never seen such blatent censorship about a subject than AI on Lemmy. I dont care about AI so whatever but really stopping people to talk about a subject is the most stupid solution to a problem.
Putting it under the rug will not work.

I played Early Access and even as an avid factorio player I wasn’t convinced.
There is something that makes it meaningless in the fact we are just building shapes.
In Factorio, if I create a battery factory I just automated a core component for a specific range of items and technologies.
In Shapez, you make an arbitrary shape and that’s it.
It wasn’t for me.
Now I will give it another chance and I totally understand that to some it might be a purer form of factory management games, but to me it will probably lack purprose.
Interested to check the Manufacture mode though.

Hey you should check out the Lafay method I mention.
It’s a method without any specific equipment required.
Most of the increased difficulty is managed by how long you rest and the posture for the exercise.
That said you need something to suspend under.
- Comment on Asked LA Fitness to cancel my membership, they offered to freeze it for $10/month instead 1 month ago:
I would wager you can emulate any exercise you do at a gym at home.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calisthenics
There is a well known method for that designed by Olivier Lafay.
It doesn’t require any specific equipment and can be completely done at home.
- Comment on What's going to happen to gas stations as cars electrify? 2 months ago:
I suppose we could also see in the future more cars that can swap their battery in charging stations.
IMO that’s the more long term use of these stations. Instead of buying gas you would swap for new batteries.
Gas stations are often well placed for refuelling so might as well repurpose them to do that but for electric cars.
Electric scooters with swappable batteries work super well in urban areas. I’m convinced once this tech is deployed on most cars it will trivialise long trips in electric cars.
This and electrified highways would be amazing.

It’s them applying the same stray as in the US even though they are in Milan and the roads are twice as narrow.
I suppose they think there is so many cars it would be hard to know in which the couch fucker is. But still you are correct to say that convoy could be easily completely blocked. And in that case you could have an army to defend it it would be a very bad situation.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 2 months ago:
No. Recently I played a bit using a friends mumble server. And it’s a friend that is already privacy conscious. But these friends are not the norm. They are the exception.
Interesting to see Teamspeak evolved but still you have to pay to host a server so that’s a huge difference.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 2 months ago:
A federation based discord would be amazing !
But still that’s a big challenge as voice chat will be costly to host.
Also out of curiosity do you aim for something that would connect through the fediverse ?
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 2 months ago:
For context my country (France) is trying to pass a law that forbids the use of social networks to users younger than 15yo. So I suppose this move from Discord is partly due to that.
Now that being said I would hope the verification process will have much more scrutiny in Europe than it would in the US.
I would definitely not be happy about it but if they are not allowed to keep any of the verification data afterwards it could be “acceptable”. But if I have the feeling they keep any data I will actively look into building a Stoat instance and try the even harder task of convincing my friends to switch over.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 2 months ago:
Well yes, I would say it’s very much an integral part of mt social life.
I spend a lot of time with my gamer friends and it revolves around our discord servers.
We even have a discord servers dedicated to our role play sessions.
IMHO Discord is a bit more than just a voice chat app. It’s also rooms with persistant chats. It’s the ability to share media etc.
Also their noose reduction tech is top notch.
I knew when I got in that it would be another “Gmail” for me. It’s great but you have to give a bit of your soul to it and I knew it would enshitify eventually.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 2 months ago:
Sure.
But what are you replacing it with ?
I tried Mumble and Teamspeak in the past and it’s pretty far from the same level of comfort.
Don’t take that the wrong way though, I’m all for supporting open alternatives, I’m just saying you have to think about the alternatives too.
I just saw something about Stoat.chat but a lot of people will have to bear the cost of self hosting these servers.
I know I will think carefully before slamming the door on discord.

- Comment on What digital indie games would you like to see at libraries? 2 months ago:
Here would be my list of games that I think are either enriching or artistically so noteworthy they have to be shared as much as possible, and also that would run on fairly basic hardware :
-
Factorio (with the space age DLC) : This is a game about logistic and automation. It teaches a lot and could even open new paths for younger players. It teaches you to itterate, to optimize and to scale things up. I think it’s very much educational. It’s not for everyone but for some it might be a great opportunity to learn.
-
Hades : Great game to discover the Greek mythology. Beautiful artistic direction and outstanding music.
-
Ball X Pit : Less educational or artistic but a great game for all to have some Arcady fun. I think it would fit well for a game to be borrowed for a few hours of fun.
-
Hifi Rush : Am amazing rhythm game that should run on modest hardware.
-
Dredge : A beautiful game about fishing. Great story and art.
-
Stray : 🐱
-
Outer wilds : Do I really need to explain why ?
-
Dispatch : A story game that would fit very well to be borrowed in a digital library.
So a bit of an eclectic list with some games that requires to have at least an old gaming setup or at least slightly modern integrated graphics but I believe many people would at least like one of these game and grow from it.

I think you can do a memtest with Windows included tool that doesn’t require to install anything. Type memory check or something in the Start menu and the system should require a restart to boot on the memtest.
But obviously setting up a dedicated thumb drive can be useful too.

My instance of choice decided to unilaterally and without any warning whatsoever disable downvotes. Just to “try it out”.
I’m still pissed about it to this day.
I mean that google removes any kind of downvotes is one stupid thing, but that people think this makes content “better” is crazy to me.
Now I do understand that in small communities the weight of a super negative account can be quite an issue… But is removing completely any negative feedback the solution ? Really, it’s all we got ?
Also the simple fact that a lot of this community is from Reddit, IMO it’s not okay to disable a feature like that without even voting on it.
So if you think disabling negative feedback fixes an issue, you have the burden to prove or at least explain the reasoning.
I for sure dont think it didn’t make YouTube any less of a cesspool to disable downvotes on it…

If you exploit people that has only one choice : Taking whatever shit job they can… Barely paid enough to survive. They are not slave per se but their boss couldn’t be happier to have cheap labor that has no leverage whatsoever and would accept anything anyway.
To some extent I think some big business are borderline slave owners even though you could say all their slaves could leave their job and die from hunger.

I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s in their interest to inform their clients and I wouldn’t think they would blame a consumer for tariffs they have no control over.
It’s possible they might not know but it’s worth asking.
Good luck !
