How I, a bike rider, look when my coworkers complain about gas prices

I ride past the gas station on my way to work and think “$1.69? Them’s rookie numbers. Let’s see if you can crack $2/litre.”

Lol. We’re up to €2.35 here

In Denmark all the gas stations started to panic during the last gas shortage because the signs only went up to 19.99, so they had to replace them with ones that could show 20 (DKK 20 = €2.67 = $3.07). We’re just about up there again.

I noticed that the chuds were hurting when they started asking questions about the little car I drive. Wanting to know how much gas it used. Wanting to know if it is reliable.

In 2005 I was riding a bicycle to work and loving it, sadly it’s now a 70 mile round trip to work, and it would all be along roads that would 100% get me killed on a bicycle. Which sucks because I always feel so good after a decent ride.

Ive decided on harm reduction and sort of a new hobby - I bought one of the first production electric cars, a second generation Leaf. It was ridiculously cheap and it’s easily rebuildable, even the battery. Its fun watching my supervisor sneer at the little car while also bitching about having to drive a diesel-powered 1 ton truck 80 miles a day for 5 dollars a gallon.

I drive a tiny ICE and yeah there are some things that don’t fit in it, but I’ve shocked people with what I can fit in it. Add in a turning radius that shocked a friend and I’m firmly committed to the hatchback subcompact life. Going electric when mine dies too. Unfortunately I only get like 30 mpg

I still have my little combustion engine car, a Mitsubishi Mirage sedan. 3 cylinders and a manual transmission, reliable as a hammer for the last 170,000 miles. My personal best was loading a 12ft long extendable telescoping handle.

        Small car logistics is fun.

Reminds of the moments when paying for fuel, and SUV drivers waiting next in the queue weep when they see how much I pay, as a microbus driver. Yeah. I have double the usable space in my vehicle, and am paying less than half for fuel.

Oh sure you have usable space, but is your powerful (not even a little bit insecure) masculinity being projected effectively??

I’ve been driving an EV for 6 years.

        • I have never run out of electricity.
        • It hasn’t caught fire.
        • I do not miss switching to 2. gear.
        • I do not miss the noise.
        • My penis size has not changed.
        • I do enjoy the lower cost.
        • I am mildy and smugly annoyed by the doll head nodders in ice cars who can’t get an even acceleration when starting at the green light.
        • I do not miss standing in the cold at the gas station holding a nozzle for minutes to empty my wallet.
        • Charging timed has never been an issue as it happens by itself when I don’t use the car.
        • Range has never been an issue as I hate driving to other countries in non stop trips anyway.

Is there anything else you would like to know about driving EVs?

I ask myself that every day in my dorky little EV. Sure, it will beat nearly any truck up to 60 mph, but it doesn’t blow black smoke out of the side and it doesn’t sound like marbles rattling in a steel can. I tried putting a playing card in the wheel spokes but it was still too quiet.

Maybe it needs speakers on the back like one of the new chargers.

My old one was a petrol mid-engine, real wheel drive, manual, no power steering, no power brakes, with twin sunroof. ;D

This sports car pedigree is adequate masculinity bragging rights. ;D

… Also, according to the advertising, it picks up 5 times as many women as a lambo. :D

Me, an e-bike rider, when the fossil fuel prices make the over 60% renewables energy costs to charge my battery skyrocket

    Image

My next bike’s gonna be a touring bike (or similar) without motor assistance, though, so I’ll be free to roam untethered both literally and figuratively 😃

Yeah, make the most of the leg-engine!

This is why I charge my battery at work.

Boss makes a hundred, I make a dime. That’s why I do my charging on company time.

I pulled up to a gas station in my EV to hand some rando a coupon for gas I will never use. On the one hand, yes I was being nice, but also it was fun to flex on ICE drivers paying current gas prices.
