It still baffles me how the activation energy can defined as absolutely X because of atomic energy levels defined by quantum mechanics. But then you have an enzyme show up and it’s, weeelllll it can be much lower.
john_lemmy@slrpnk.net 1 day ago
The enzyme lowers it?
Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Yes. That’s what they do.

No, sorry, enzymes do not defy quantum mechanics.

Antibodies too

Who are they and why are they so against bodies?

Also drugs be like:

I would’ve loved to shadow along with the person who made all the measurements to fit those buildings & people & cutting the foam pieces & fabric & fitting it onto the clothing to get it all to fit perfectly.
YoiksAndAway@piefed.zip 1 day ago
Cute, but I find it mildly annoying w.r.t the induced fit model.

you know what i recently recognized, the electrically charged pronges are like the fingers of the enzyme that it uses to grasp other things.
gandalf_der_12te@feddit.org 1 day ago
and also, a reason why the body mostly uses sugar molecules instead of fat molecules for energy metabolism is probably because sugar has polar groups (-OH groups) that are electrically charged, so it’s easier to grasp those with the fingers (which are also charged), while fatty acids are not charged, so they’re hard to grasp. so it’s easier for enzymes to attack sugars than fats, and that is why sugar metabolism is orders of magnitudes faster than fat metabolism.

This picture was originally was taken to emphasize the violence of antihomeless architecture in public spaces.
The ridiculous costumes emphasize what you would have to wear to be able to lay down comfortably whick kind of does fit the enzyme metaphor.

Violence? Have you ever seen violence? You’re delegitimizing what violence actually is.
webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
The result of this kind of infrastructure is torture.
Imagine having to downgrade your bed from being a cold large stone slab because some rich people who also own the empty building across the street decided to spend money to stop you from doing so.
Physical and mental torture. Definitely violence.
athatet@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
Violence is more than just physical.

I have never seen a human body dismantled by physical violence in front of me, that does not mean I haven’t seen absolutely brutal forms of violence.
Homelessness in the US is an act of mass violence against some of the most vulnerable people in society.
