    Cats are excellent trainers.

      They really did domesticate humans.

I’ve trained my cats to come to a dinner bell. Now, instead of yelling at me for food, the youngest cat has figured out how to ring the door chimes when he’s hungry.

On the plus side, if my cats ever accidentally get outside, the bell is loud enough to hear across the neighborhood, so I can summon them.

I used one of those guitar tuner apps, and it says it’s F6

In loudest din or hush profound,
My ears catch evil’s slightest sound.
Let those who toll out evil’s knell,
Beware my power: The F-Sharp Bell!

Cats are weird. One time I couldn’t find my two cats.

Turns out they were in the trash can, and taking a nap.

So I dumped wet cold spaghetti in the trash.

Never found them in the trash again.

I’ve tried negative reinforcement for our cat that INSISTS upon rushing into the coat closet the moment he hears it open. Ignoring him, locking him in, giving him lectures on extremely dry subject material - no effect.

At least he doesn’t expect treats afterwards.

I believe cats don’t really respond to negative reinforcement, they just see it as a temporary inconvenience. They have to be given an alternative they prefer.

Why not open another drawer first and have cat stay there until it’s safe, and then ask?
