On the Internet you’re not arguing to convince that person you’re arguing with.
You should argue to challenge the statements that person made for other people that will read the thread so those opinions are not out there without any counterarguments

That’s basically the game the elites want us to play.
The societal problems are so preposterous and button-click simple to solve for a government as powerful as ours, there’s no other logical explanation.
They want our eyes off the ball. That much is clear.

Seems like you lost your tinfoil-hat over there

The small sarcasm on the left cracks me up for some reason

In an Internet argument, it usually takes like 2-3 replies in to figure out if a person is arguing in good or bad faith.
If they are arguing in bad faith, there is no reason not to block them, they are wasting your time

I used to be proud of how I never blocked anybody.
Now I don't look back:-).
Live and learn.

It can be SO tempting to reply to someone who’s being a jerk, but it’s very rarely worth it. I restrain myself because nobody “wins” an argument online. It’s just two bickering losers.

Wrestling with pigs and all that.
OpenStars@kbin.social 1 year ago
I've literally changed my position on important matters due to patient and considerate discussions that occured entirely on the Internet (Facebook of all places, if you can believe it). But yeah, with a jerk acting as a troll, that's not going to happen, no matter how much you might wish for it.

Peace is boring. I want people’s messy ugly opinions about stupid shit that doesn’t matter. It gets me out of bed in the morning

The guy is banging his granddaughter, he may know something about not giving a fuck.

Gonna need a source here

I can’t find anything definitive. The guy that murdered his grand daughter claims that she told him: people.com/…/morgan-freeman-sex-with-granddaughte…
That’s a yikes statement, in and of itself. I see allegations and vehement denials. I think that’s the last thing I’m gonna google for tonight. Godspeed stranger!

I want to disagree but…
atrielienz@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I do disagree. Lol. I don’t want peace. I want problems, always.

I dont block people. I see how it’s useful and help deal with trolls, but it gives people the easy path out of discussion and actually thinking about something.
It gets to a point where you just block anyone who disagrees with you and leads to the bubble life.
For me, i think that all ideas, even the bad ones, should have a voice. They should have a place in the world, hearing both good and bad ideas can help to separate them and identify people who srgue in bad faith.
Although that decision came from spending time fruitlessly arguing with people on the site that shall not be named.
KevonLooney@lemm.ee 1 year ago
Nope. Block them.
There’s an unending supply of morons with insane opinions. You are not going to run out.
Mr_Dr_Oink@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Yeah, that doesn’t bother me. But that’s my opinion. If you dont like it, i guess you can block me? 😜

Whats Samuel L Jackson got to do with this
AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Not a damn thing, motherfucker.
But that’s ok, cause that’s James Earl Jones, not Sam Jackson.

Do like the guy in the photo and fall asleep in the middle of conversations. Nobody will argue with you.

I can’t tell if they deliberately put a comma there in order to change the meaning of the phrase.

A true block like on Mastodon where when you block a user they can't see your profile or posts, and can't comment on your posts, they simply cease to exist.
That's a block, what the sites like Lemmy/KBIN have is not a true block, like Reddit, it's a mask, where when you block a user, you no longer can see their posts and comments, which is no small blessing, but they can still see your profile and your posts and comment their filth on them.
This has got to be changed to where it's a true block, because allowing the monsters to have at your posts, with no way to stop them, is simply abusive.
redcalcium@lemmy.institute 1 year ago
Due to federated nature of Lemmy/Kbin, your block list will be available publicly (at least readable to random 3rd party servers) in order to implement this. Some people already not comfortable that their downvotes are not private, and may also freak out if their know their block list are not private as well. Not sure if mastodon also have issue or not though.
chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
I’d rather they added some kind of feature to moderator tools to track people who frequently respond to users that have blocked them. The way Reddit handles blocks is really disruptive and often abused by spammers and others.
