You can’t access old.reddit.com with VPN these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if reddit killed it soon.

If you’re one of a tribe living in the jungle of West Papua, then yeah, it’s basically survival of the fittest there with no electricity or modern amenities. If you’re living in a city then it’s no different than the rest of the region, but with small risks of armed conflict with the separatist group.

Steam is available in 237 countries, while PSN is only available in 69 countries. Some people are going to be locked out from the game they bought.

Hmm, what do you mean when a tank game has a tankies reputation?
- Comment on Is it greener to just burn plastic? 1 week ago:
Using high temperature incinerators, yes. IIRC you’ll need at least 1000°C to reduce toxic fumes production when burning plastics.

Sunk cost fallacy. The more you pay the more painful it is to quit.

- Comment on Ubisoft Is Taking Away Your Games... 3 weeks ago:
It has been confirmed that The Crew does have a hidden offline play capability:
I can now confirm that local save data functionality is indeed built into all our copies and is not absent from the game, we have even obtained a sample save data file. This + the fact that we literally see offline mode in action in the prologue means that there 100% is an offline mode, if anyone was doubting at this point.
Save data dumper has been released to allow dumping your save data that can be used to play offline with a mod later:
Yes. a server emulator for offline play is in development by r00t0.
The save file dumped from ubisoft servers and is planned to be used for the offline mod so no progress will be lost.
However, you only have a limited time, after 31 march the servers will go down and your save file will be forever lost.

Assuming they’re still using silicon tech, it probably won’t be that much better than top of the line laptop from today. Maybe more ram, more cores, more storage, more battery capacity, better screen, but roughly the same single core speed.

Why pay for more servers when you can tell your users to queue?

- Comment on Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability. 5 weeks ago:
Double Dragon on NES had a jump that was impossible to make forcing the company to make a new cart and give refunds.
I didn’t know this. This is obviously why I never finished that game and certainly not because I suck at it.

Games back then was also typically made by two dudes: one programmer and one artist. Heck, the original doom was made by five dudes: two programmers, two artists and one designer.

- Comment on Doctors aren't allowed to have sexual relations with their patients, but what if the patient was the doctor's spouse? 5 weeks ago:
Where I live, doctors are discouraged (though not forbidden) to treat themselves and their family because of increased risk of misdiagnose. For example, when treating their own kids, some people tend to worry too much when their children get some fever, which lead to over medication. On the other hand, some people tend to not worry too much and not treating their kids until it’s too late.
- Comment on Quest 1 becomes near-E-waste Apr 30 5 weeks ago:
Made me wonder how long Apple would support their Vision Pro devices. The Quest 1 was released on 2019, so it got about 5 years of support. Apple might support Vision Pro for longer (maybe 7 years?), but at $3499 (vs Quest 1’s $399), it’ll going to be hurt for the owner when it’s no longer supported.
