it’s a stupid idea, that the late 20th century copyrights that show the year in roman numerals are lesser because they have to write more characters, and the early 21st century copyrights are superior because they are brief and easy to read. Compare “Copyright 2005 - MMV” with “Copyright 1988 - MCMLXXXVIII”

l read once that it was written as roman numerals because it was harder to understand.
That allowed movie companies to release films at the time they wanted, while the shooting was done 2 to 3 years prior, and keeping the audience in the dark.
