Praying for winning sports events has always been the funniest to me. Just the idea that an omnipotent being a) cares about the outcome of a passtime, b) would use their power to affect the outcome while many suffer or die from random events they didn’t deserve, and c) does so at the expense of all the players and supporters of the other team. It’s just so audacious to pray for something so trivial.

It’s also a great indicator of the powerlessness of prayer, as only one team wins and all the other people have prayed in vain.

They probably think god likes sports and it a competition of faiths. Which team’s fanbase prays the hardest gets gods favour.

I was raised to thank God for things I already had and not ask for anything. I was also held down while my family drew a cross on my forehead with evoo, spoke in tongues and banished a demon from me because I was angry and depressed.

All religions are mental illness adjacent. It’s not your fault.

I always thought that the bull shit about god (all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present everywher and perfectly good and loving) made NO SENSE! I don’t want to be mean with religious but WTF.
When a 6 months old baby is raped does he know and let it? Than he is not good.
He is good but don’t have the power to stop it? Than he is not powerful
He is good, have the power to stop, but don’t know everything that’s happening at once? Then some people will say “people have free will” ’ again he is not all good and loving then?
Other people will say “he has a higher plan”. Well do we have free will or is that a plan? Make your mind.I studied in a nuns school and let me tell you, non of this made sense to me when I was 6yo, how can old people fall for it???

Oh, he knows what you want. He just wants you to beg for it.

Your priest father telling you that it’s just badly written fiction is based.

I don’t know much about the religion industry, but I suspect this is true for all of them. The fastest way to become a non-believer is to read the religious texts.

““And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’] For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” Matthew 6:7-15 NASB1995 bible.com/bible/100/mat.6.8-15.NASB1995

Yes. You can do the same kind of rationalizing with most stories. People do it all the time, explaining why it actually makes sense why the the dragon lady went crazy at the end of
game of thrones
I haven’t actually seen got but it was the first example that came to mind for a situation that didn’t totally make sense in the context of the story but people have been able to rationalize what happened to make it turn the way it did even though their explanation is not canon

It sounds like you have the theology you need.

It’s kind of ironic that after complaining about prayers with many words, Jesus goes on to tell them to instead use the Lord’s Prayer, which in itself is just an incredibly long-winded way of saying “hi god give me a good and virtuous life”.
niartenyaw@midwest.social 16 hours ago
and not just too many words, but first complaining about meaningless repetition and then immediately says hey just repeat these words exactly

7 sentences is not a tweet, true enough.
