  There is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

  It feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

  It offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster-i always just ask the monster.”

  There are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

  For when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face.

  New law. LLMs will only be accessible in very particular forms. Engaging with an LLM will be more like visiting the Oracle of Delphi. You’ll have to travel to some remote location and ask the LLM in person. It will then respond in riddles or vague prophecies that leave a lot open to interpretation. This will be the only legal way to use an LLM.

    I love this. I want people to need to hike 30 miles into the hills to ask an LLM for banal advice. And then spend the while hike back wondering about the word salad they got in return.

  Is it just me or was tech more fun a decade ago. All this AI stuff is missing the sillyness, like naming your AI after a fictional dragon.

  My guess is that in the past, the tech worked but was complex so they used fun mascots to make it more approachable. Whereas AI has a more fake it till you make it strategy.

    The blatantly evil surveillance company that talks about killing its customers’ enemies is named after a set of magical seeing stones the bad guy in lotr uses to twist and corrupt its users and find where to send the ringwraiths. It’s owned by gay christofascist nosferatu.

    He also named his weapons company after a cool sword, from the same series of books. The guy who owns it throws his old clothes away instead of washing them, and still, I’m told, always smells like a homeless camp.

    There’s still whimsy.
