Is this why we’re trying boil the oceans and make them toxic?

Deeper than the mountains… older than the trees…?
John Denver was singing about sharks?
SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
It’s hard to fathom the cultural sensation that was Jaws and the deep effect it had on Denver.

This statement does not make sense. If they only survived 4 out of 5 extinction events then there should be no more sharks alive today.

They weren’t around yet during the first one
regdog@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
OK, I think I get it now. But it sounds a bit confusing. If you are listing events that sharks were not present for, then you might as well say something like Sharks survived the Big Bang

Older than Saturn’s rings!

To clarify, “older than trees” doesn’t mean older than currently living trees. It means older than the very first trees. As in, before plants figured out how to grow wood.

And even older than Polaris, the north star. It’s only 70 million years old.

Also older than the rings of Saturn

Well, Polaris is made up of three stars and only one of them is estimated to be younger than sharks. Still cool, though.
