I am a huge enjoyer of fizzy beverages. I love the excitement the carbonation adds to my life!
However when I pour soda into an ice-filed cup, the carbonation never makes it past the ice. It completely removes all the carbonation. Leaving me with a flat soda.
I know americans drink all their beverages with a shitload of ice. How do you guys do this? teach me your ways!

I usually pour the soda first, then add ice. Also, it helps to hold the glass at an angle when you start pouring.
… or just keep it In the fridge.
I do all those, had no success so far. I think it might just be the temp of the soda not being cool enough or maybe the ice not being smooth enough…
The soda is supposed to be cool when you pour it.
I had some soda prepped for this reason to be completely cold and when i poured it over the ice, the ice removed all the carbonation. basically it started fizzing as soon as it touched the ice. When i just poured it into an empty cup nothing like htat happend.
Cold soda, pour a short burst of soda over the ice to “rinse” it and prevent the texture of the ice from stripping the carbonation (same thing that happens when you put mentos in soda). It also fills the glass with as much carbon dioxide as possible, displacing the oxygen. Then tip the glass slightly and pour against the glass and between ice cubes about half way, rest for just a second (not completely) and finish pouring.
Ice from a home freezer is completely frozen, but a dedicated ice maker for restaurants or gas stations will have ice that is still wet which makes this far easier.
The absolute easiest and best way I have found is a Qarbo bottle. Which is a brand of home carbonator that allows you to carbonate any liquid and slowly release the gas. I will fill it with ice and soda, then recarbonate it before shaking it while pressurized.

For the best results, keep both the soda and empty drinking glass in the refrigerator.
Then start with an empty glass tipped 15-20deg toward open can or bottle of soda.
Pour slowly onto upper inner edge of tipped glass until half full.
Stop with enough room in the glass for additional ice volume.
Place each cube into the surface of poured soda before releasing it.
If you’re insisting on ice first, use the other techniques but with a preloaded glass instead of empty.
Cold soda in a glass, add ice while trying to agitate the liquid as little as possible. Cold liquids have greater capacity for dissolving gasses. It is less prone to release boubles. Use an ice machine for your ice. Smooth ice has fewer nucleation points for the co2 boubles to form. Cold, slow and smooth. Expect to loose some carbonation. In the cases i have very rugged ice from the freezer, i sprinkle some soda or water on them to melt the outer layer before adding my drink slowly.
You pour it slowly into the side of the cup to avoid foam overflowing and losing carbonation that way and
You drink it relatively quickly and don’t nurse it for 4 hours.

Tilt the glass while pouring it so the soda hits the wall of the glass at an angle, like when pouring a beer.
