I must be missing something major because the numbers don’t make sense to me. They are going to impose a minimum 30% tax on a bunch of trusts. Trusts are making $600 billion a year. But they only expect to make ~$4.5 billion in taxes per year? 30% of $600 billion is $180 billion. Why wouldn’t they be making far more with this tax? Does it target only the small trusts? Seems like a lot of the profit of these trusts is just being ignored for some reason.

What a weird post. A sick person not wanting to spread disease is perfectly logical, especially if it’s the flu. And not appearing sick for an hour isn’t exactly hard to do with modern medicine.

I saw this when trying to find my tickets for a concert a month ago. If they ever required this I’d just be done with concerts. Not worth trying to find concerts that don’t use them, or to find ways around it.

I completely agree with all of that. But I’d also like to point out that the prison system in the US isn’t being run with rehabilitation in mind. Our system is much more about punishment. They’d rather have people stuck in the system because they can be used as slave labor.
It’s one of the biggest failures of the US IMO and not a lot of people talk about it. Slavery needs to be illegal in all capacities. And prisoners shouldn’t be allowed to be used as labor. In theory I don’t have a problem with it, but in practice it just encourages abuse, as you have pointed out.

I know nothing of this case so I’m not commenting on it specifically.
The headline seems to assume that admitting guilt means you did it. That should usually be the case, but there’s a variety of reasons why that may not be. Mental health, coersion, taking the fall for someone else, etc.

This situation may sound ridiculous, but I’ve got a cousin over 40 in essentially the same position. Never worked a day in her and still lives with her parents. No one really knows what’s going to happen when they pass, but no one appears willing to let her live with them. Myself included. Not that i’vd be her first choice anyway. I live half way across the country.
