Yeah it’s a real mystery to me how Lemmy didn’t adopt extra tags.

We thankfully have not yet reached that Reddit-esque phase where clicking NSFW in the All feed has a 50% chance of being porn and a 50% chance of being a gruesome mauling or gory death in an industrial accident.

There should be like at least 4 tags imo. One for hardcore sexual stuff, one for mild erotic stuff, one for general violence and general "mild" gore, and one for really disgusting NSFL shit.

Devs were too busy trying to add a hardcoded “slur” filter to bother with user QoL features

Most of the gory NSFW stuff I see is from Ukraine.

Unless someone on your instance subscribes to a bunch of NSFW communities (typically from lemmynsfw.com), then none of them will federate with your instance and consequently won't be seen. You can test this by subscribing to one of them and then monitor your All feed afterwards. You should see them pop up at that point.

Yeah, and I don’t subscribe to Ukraine comms mostly for that reason. A quick check of the comm name on a NSFW post makes it pretty easy to filter though

I browse all, so I still get it from communities that aren’t dedicated to NSFW. It’s easy to avoid.

There was a community for this, I think r/fiftyfifty
Forester@yiffit.net 1 year ago
Yeah but it was more like a bunch of puppies frolicking vs someone brutally murdered face down in a ditch and it tended to be the latter

Lemmy has dedicated porn instances (lemmynsfw.com and pornlemmy.com). Too bad some instances have defederated them.
empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
Well, my instance hasn’t defederated. 😎

Nah, we’re just at the point where 90% of the time it’s a cartoon wolf with a three foot cock

On Lemmy its more 75% chance it will be gay or yiff porn.

Every time I come across porn I’m not interested in, I block the community. Now 99% of the nsfw I get is the one I like.
Only had the yiff experience for a short period of time.
DarkCloud@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Me too, I’ve seen far too much gay porn just to keep using Lemmy.
ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I had to block so much yiff when I first joined Lemmy. I knew it was out there, but I didn’t realize just how much until Lemmy. Maybe I blocked it gradually over time at Reddit and didn’t realize how much it was in total, but I felt like there wasn’t as much there.
I try not to judge their journey, but I have no need to join them on it.
TheFriar@lemm.ee 1 year ago
Same. And throughout that process I was subscribing to different communities that interested me…to the point that I barely browse all communities anymore because my own feed is so robust and varied.

Is Lemmy the new Tumblr??
GenosseFlosse@lemmy.nz 1 year ago
Never noticed that on Lemmy, but had your exact experience on bluesky.
empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
That seems like a win to me
