Why cant farmers just set their alarm an hour earlier though, no need to drag everyone else into this
Comment on It was a simpler time
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 6 days agoThere used to be a reason, for farmers to have more light in the morning.

Apparently this was a myth, but I’m against it, I voted in CA to pass a law where we don’t have to do it and yet we still do. No one wants day light savings time
OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 5 days ago
No I want permanent daylight savings. I want to spring forward and not fall back.
AEsheron@lemmy.world 5 days ago
Studies have shown more health benefits for more people sticking to Standard time, despite widespread resistance. Personally, I’m all for permanent Standard time, but I’ll take DST if it is the only way to kill the switch.

But let’s have spring forward every year, let’s make it real confusing. In 6 years 9am will be in the middle of the afternoon.
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 5 days ago
Sorry, let me rephrase, no more time change and spring forward would be my choice
ExperiencedWinter@lemmy.world 6 days ago
I never understood this argument because farmers are the least likely job to use the clock to tell them when to work… The idea of a farmer waiting for 8am to clock in is ridiculous.
echodot@feddit.uk 5 days ago
It’s nothing to do with farmers. I don’t know where people got that idea.
Farmers get up when it’s daylight and you can see, what time it is isn’t relevant. It’s not like the animals know what daylight saving is so if they don’t get fed when they expect it, they’ll kick up a fuss.

where people got that idea

It gave them more day light in the morning
mirshafie@europe.pub 6 days ago
Because the hens, pigs and cows came out an hour early, right?
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 5 days ago
I have zero clue, I guess they can feed them in day light. For fuck sakes who cares tbh.
bitchkat@lemmy.world 6 days ago
How does it give them more daylight? The amount of hours between sunrise and sunset is not dependent on our clocks.
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 5 days ago
I said in the morning, not total hours of daylight
echodot@feddit.uk 5 days ago
It’s got nothing to do with farmers. So whether or not farmers find daylight savings useful (I think the split is roughly 50/50) is irrelevant.
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 5 days ago
All of it is irrelevant now. Especially in CA where we voted not to have it anymore and yet they keep doing it.
Aneb@lemmy.world 6 days ago
If you check farmers’ out they can still do the same amount of work in daylight hours.
Daylight savings’ history is actually more white than you think. The law was passed by politicians that just wanted to golf earlier. Farmers are commonly used as the excuse because every accusations is a confession.
kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 5 days ago
This was never the reason. It was to do with factories saving on electric lighting during WWI, by getting their workers out an hour earlier. Then after WWII we just kept it going for some reason
zerofk@lemmy.zip 6 days ago
That’s a myth. Farmers in the US lobbied against the change. Animals and crops don’t care about the time, so it just meant they had to start work earlier on the clock.
