I mean, not that any of it is true, but the rapture shit was made up way later than the “original” text. It’s fan fiction essentially.

Fun fact: Everyone goes to purgatory when they die. You don’t see the sorting hat to be placed in Heaven or Hell until the rapture.

Uh… Revelations, dude.

Well yeah, I’ve read the majority of the King James bible. I guess you could count me as a Christian for several years, because I was in a church until I wasn’t forced to go. Revelation is definitely the most interesting part that was included in that version.

For my branch(es) of evangelicalism growing up, purgatory simply wasn’t a concept.
JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Purgatory was one of the big issues that started the Protestant reformation in the first place.

Bunch of hell-bound papists in this thread, got it. For what it’s worth, I’ll speak up for y’all with the big guy, but…I don’t know that he’ll listen. You know, in light of everything.

LOL. The Catholics have their issues, but I’m not sure the Evangelicals have much room to be criticizing. You know, in light of everything.

I’m such a degenerate, I saw evangelicalism and thought it was a religion for neon genesis evangelion.

Not according to Catholic lore

yeah but like, would time flow linearly there? why doesn’t God just keep the souls on ice and thaw them when ready?
yannic@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
Purgatory isn’t a place, it’s a process. It also helps to think of the afterlife as more of a state than a place, existing outside of time.

Depends on the denomination, I think. Dunno about others but for Orthodox Christians the soul goes to heaven after 40 days because that’s how long Jesus took to ascend after his death.

Climbing stairs for 40 days sounds like its own hell.
