- Comment on Do sunrise and sunset objectively look different or do they just feel different? 1 day ago:
That’s true they’re pretty good now.
The context of my comment that you had no way of knowing is I’ve got a family member who is into photography, like buy themselves a 3k camera from something or other fancy brand level of interest in it. You can tell there’s a difference, even on my newer iPhone.
But yeah it’s pretty darn good for a pocket camera!
- Comment on Do sunrise and sunset objectively look different or do they just feel different? 2 days ago:
Fascinating, thanks for the link.
I’m no photographer but I do whip out the phone while out on a trail somewhere and occasionally go out near sunrise or sunset. I know using a phone will never be real camera quality but it’s fun to try anyway. Article has my gears turning on where those special times could yield interesting results

What are these, enchiladas for ants? Yes, it is. For a family of ants
- Comment on Anon's PC works 2 weeks ago:
Yeah it was ChromeOS. It is sort of linux, but google is an advertisement company. You can’t ask them to not collect your data and recently they gave up pretending like they cared about user privacy. Linux is none of that. Complete opposite.
If you compare it to linux side by side, chromeOS is basically the alternate reality evil twin with the goatee
- Comment on Anon's PC works 2 weeks ago:
installed Lubuntu 24 on it using a guide that loosely applied to the low end chromebook I have. Link here
Using chrome browser on ChromeOS was snappy but any other browser I used with addons was an awful and laggy experience. The difference in performance was an unexpected win, but I primarily did it to ditch SpywareOS.
Going forward I’m probably going to just look for chromebooks to convert to linux for a daily driver laptop because you dont have to pay a premium for the spyware like you do with a windows laptop

I upgraded a Chromebook to Linux recently. That was a huge bump in performance that I wasn’t expecting, not even just for gaming.

I’d love nothing more than to move back to android, but I’m a cheap bastard.
I’m going to drive this til the wheels fall off

Never thought of doing that myself tbh but I’ll check it out, thanks for the idea. Id be happy if I could get a couple more years out of it because it sure beats these iPhone prices now

This is almost exactly what happened to me except they told me my phone had mold growing inside it from the shattered screen I wanted replaced.
The “mold” was pocket lint from waiting a month to get it fixed.
Bitch actually said right to my face that my phone no longer works so let’s get you a new one. I powered on the phone right there and he started backpedaling and grifting ‘oh but it won’t be long tho’. So I went home and still use it with the shattered screen because fuck them.

- Comment on Hypothetically, if you are a witness or whistleblower who's adversary was a very big corporation (such as boeing), what measures could you take to prevent yourself from being "suicided"? 4 weeks ago:
Was just looking at something like how to execute on that this morning as my morning coffee dive down an internet rabbit hole.
There’s this guy named Michael Bazzell who used to make a podcast about stuff like this, and he also wrote a book called Extreme Privacy that I thumbed through this morning. He talks about where to go to get a ghost address, how to buy and set up a cell phone to be virtually anonymous, how to buy a house anonymously or how to re-title your car to a trust or LLC, and pretty much everything in between. Even talks about what information to not divulge when you go to the ER and details what to consider you put on your kids birth certificate.
So if anyone is paranoid enough to know how to avoid getting suicided, I’m going to bet on this guy’s advice
- Comment on Anon makes an impression 5 weeks ago:
I could definitely see myself doing something that dumb at 19.
But I’d then have dropped the class to avoid acknowledging it happened
It’s plausible

Well fuck. Sounds like they found him
If it is I don’t understand why he didn’t ditch the gun and fake id and everything else along the way out of town.

Pulling out your gun and shooting the brown skinned dude going for a jog is a little bit different than packing it in and resolving to do yoga another day

Lots of people giving advice here, but I’m not seeing the most important advice being emphasized.
Always trust your gut. Listen to that uneasy feeling and act on it.
We developed this intuition over millennia for a reason. Your subconscious will pick up on cues even if you consciously aren’t catching it.

I just want you to know that your comment wasn’t blatantly disrespected at least by this internet stranger.
It’s a thoughtful reply to some asshat that was asking you questions in bad faith, he was not open to a different point of view from the outset.
And also that’s pretty awesome stance to take. I wish more folks were this mature about their relationships

I know it’s not the answer to your question, but you should really consider getting a bidet installed to not piss off your hemorrhoids.
Speaking from someone who also has them and who got a bidet during covid. Life changing for my cinnamon ring.

But on reddit reposts were everywhere and it was very common for bots to karma farm by doing so, so calling it out had a purpose.
