They actually took a bunch of elements of the short story collection and jammed them together. The worst is what they did to Susan Calvin…
Ignoring the butchery, it’s a pretty generic action movie. Very forgettable. Adding what they did to the source material makes it a straight tragedy.
- Comment on Laws of Robotics 5 weeks ago:
That is the plot of the Will Smith version of I, Robot.
If I remember correctly, it’s actually Daneel who comes up with the zeroth law. And it’s not to justify killing people.

Only in the shitty movie. Not in the books.

Also, a lot of the machine vision systems I’ve run up against use red light, but it is kind of complex. If they want to detect say blood, I think blue light would actually give better contrast for detection.

Unless of course you want to pull the paint off your wall.
Just use painters tape/masking tape. If you want to get fancy gaffer tape.

wrap it through and around a ring magnet multiple times
You are describing an inductor not a capacitor. They can be basic low pass filters but I don’t think they will work in this case.

I’m not a fan of Paltro, but… Really?
Do you honestly expect a YouTube channel that makes mid to moderately famous people eat spicy food to be a paragon of journalistic integrity? That’s just silly.
Also, yes she is parody of herself, but personally I reserve that level of vitriol for the Bezeoss and Rumsfelds of the world.

The shitty hot take on suni vs shia was at least preempted by a disclaimer that he knew nothing about the subject (he didn’t). The structure of the… narrative? argument? readomly talking like he had something to say? was bad enough, when he started going off on COVID, it was really just the straw.
If that was you, sorry man. It was rough. I’d love to see some stats on the video cause I suspect I held out longer than most.

If ridicule keeps the percentage at 0.5% instead of growing to 1% its incredibly virtuous
That if is doing a lot of lifting. One of the points of the movie is that people and media was laughing off the flat earthers and they grew in strength to have a national movement.

I feel the same, but find things getting shittier and shittier. I’m paying more and more for less and less. Then I stumble on an open source project that does all that I want and it’s free.
Bitwarden vs LastPass Joplin vs Evernote A million different foss projects for all the shit Google has shut down…
Sometimes spending a little time setting stuff up, ends up saving a huge hastle migrating away from the commercial project that is going to fail unless they fuck over their users.

My takeaway is there is something driving that contrarian attitude. We need to figure out how to address those underlying causes rather than exacerbating them through ostracization.
Really good documentary. I watched it while trying to engage over at reddit’s AskTrumSupporters. It was interesting to see that community become more and more radicalized as the years went on, as the insane bullshit piled up. Helped me come to terms with the fact that engaging on that level is counter productive if anything.
- Comment on Abortion Rights: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver 7 months ago:
Is it more moral to force a child into a life where they cant afford basic necessities, where the people who are supposed to watch over them dont want them, dont love them? Is that moral?
And don’t you dare bring up adoption. With abortion legal 20,000 kids age out of foster care every year. that number is undoubtedly going to increase.

Except it doesn’t. The state controls the pay rate by law and people who pass those laws are also heavily invested in private education (see Devos). As a result they put more pressure on fewer teachers to push out an inferior product to drive them into private education.
Your bullshit idealized supply and demand curves don’t work in the real world. Not when the whole market is tilted and closed off.

I am an engineer. I love making things. I work in a heavily regulated industry (Med device), and it is a huge pain in the ass. I have to fill out obscene amounts of paperwork for everything I do. I live in the woods with a well and a septic system. I am hoping to disconnect from the electric grid in a few years.
I bought into rugged individualism when I was younger, but I have come to realize it is a farce. I am really glad there is the structure and oversight for these things that can harm people. Complex systems require diverse areas of expertise and multiple layers of oversight and protection.
The sentiment that it is some great burden to “obtain permission from men who do nothing” is a blatant strawman for what the processes actually are.
