Welcome to the dark side for good and yes, it is better… overall. I’ve been on Lemmy now since the first mass exodus when I deleted my reddit account of 15+ years.
While Lemmy is now my ‘home’, I do occasionally visit 3 reddit subs that have no equivalent elsewhere. It just happens and I see nothing wrong with the occasional view. It’s not like /u/Spez can monitize my VPN anonymous visit. So don’t feel bad if you end up doing the same, Lemmy just doesn’t have the same volume.

Ah yes, Matrox’s last bastion of business: ridiculous monitor counts across 2 or 3 Matrox C680 cards.
It’s even more ridiculous when you use 15 x 85" OLED TVs for some company doing a C&C room.

Nah. This is Reno or the older part of Vegas.
Portland would be a psychic that does couples colonics and taxes.
If we’re talking downtown Portland, you can’t forget the attached oddity museum or drag queen bar.

I recently did my Title IX training modules from my laptop while fishing on a pier over the Pacific Ocean.
Was probably the best time I ever had doing Title IX training I ever had.

If you haven’t seen it, watch Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! on HBO Max. Jerry Seinfeld is on it several times.

Thankfully there’s more than one Mom and Pop shop. So our sneakers (and Sienfelds) will eventually show up somewhere…

Jealous. I wish I could do that, but I neither have the space nor the money for a good espresso machine.

I love my Lavazza Gold blend. I grind and brew it as often as I can. However, I have days where I hit the fuckit button at 5am and have to buy coffee somewhere.

Even as an American, I’ve stopped drinking this garbage years ago.
Virtually every Mom and Pop shop tastes better at this point so do yourself a favor and support a local small business instead.

Microsoft is rather inept as a company and always has been, so this action sincerely doesn’t surprise me.
Quit buying MicroIndiaSoft products.

You are correct, but a fun fact most don’t know:
Tomatoes are related to potatoes!
The both come from the same nightshade family: Solanaceae.

Paramount does this shit too.
If you have Ad Free Paramount+ you get 30s intro ads where you have to hit the >> or OK button to make it go away.

- Comment on I did not look up how progressive lenses really work before getting some. 8 months ago:
Try and return them first; tell them they give you a head ache and you cannot wear them. Refuse to wear them any longer.
If the prescription lens place doesn’t help, dump them along with the glasses, consider your options and shop around.
I had the same experience 7 years ago. I ultimately went back to my old pair and even bought a pair of cheapos from eyebuydirect.com to hold me over until my insurance covered my next prescription.
- Comment on Public transit in Chengdu, China versus Toronto, Canada 9 months ago:
As another who has been to China a few times and has friends there: It’s a thing.
The lack of regulations (better now than even 5 years ago, but still shit (*1), the lack of pollution protection laws (*3) and the lack of care in build quality (*2) in order to drive down project costs isn’t just a thing, it’s a fact:

- Comment on Welcome to Silicon Valley. People here believe parking is more important than housing 10 months ago:
“This month, the city issued a request for proposals to transform three downtown city-owned parking lots into at least 345 units of affordable housing near public transit and local businesses.”
The counter argument and lawsuit claims that the Mayor and thus the City are removing much needed parking spaces that would force anyone in the area to either sell their vehicles or pay exorbitant fees for paid parking.
Menlo Park doesn’t have hardly any parking to begin with and there’s no such thing as 'affordable ’ in the entire SF bay area.
