in college calc classes, my handwriting is famously quite poor. I’d scribble down some illegible notes and formulas, draw a few pictures illustrating the problem, then come up with a random answer. most of my classes graded work, not correct answers, so if I had an inkling of the right way to do it I could fake it and usually get at least 75% credit for the question.
always hated the questions that make you use the answer from previous questions. always a good time when you get to the end and have a nonsensical answer and have to redo 4 pages to find where you forgot to carry a 1.

totally agree, I just mention it cause a lot of people put a lot more worth on it then they should. ime shops that advertise being authorized are more scummy then the average 3rd party repair shop.

idk, I’ve fixed a lot of phones that people take into baths or showers. constant exposure will wear down the seals and there’s a reason they’re water resistant not waterproof. plus if you’ve ever had any repair done even by an authorized provider that water resistance goes out the window.

something thats helped me a lot is remembering that recovery isn’t a linear path.
if you’re driving from New York to California, then make an unplanned stop in Nebraska, you aren’t back in New York. you just gotta deal with the fact you’re in Nebraska and move on.
you got this. stay strong.

sorry, but the chances are actually zero. it takes a lot more force and specialized conditions to split an atom than a knife

I think kids being pedantic menaces are a very important part of society. most of the times it’s over good things, but adults don’t have the time or drive to address it.

yes many do. I’m a college student and between classes and work 60 hours is pretty normal for most of us during the semester.
now once you add a social life, family, etc on top it becomes almost impossible pretty quick.

depends on the type of solder but yeah, I’m not exactly holding it there tho. just high airflow at that temp for a few seconds to push the rosin underneath the chips. helps a lot with bga chips where water can actually get underneath the chip and short connections or leave debris even once evaporated. for actually reworking chips I use around 480c.

no. if you want to do component level board repair for water damge, this is how you do it professionally. I’ve been using this strategy for 5 years or so now and it has much better success rates than just cleaning the board with ipa.
maybe overkill for most people since it requires more specialized tools but if you go to a shop they’ll most likely use similar techniques at least to assess the damage
- Comment on It just plain doesn't work, please stop telling people to do this 4 months ago:
best way I’ve found to isolate and repair water damage is to open it up and apply some high quality liquid rosin to the water damaged areas. then hit it with hot air (300c should be fine) to get the rosin under all chips and connectors. lastly, do not clean the board, it can push the corrosion around and cause more issues.

I hate sites that make me constantly change passwords. it’s been shown time and time again that making users change passwords often decreases security by a pretty large factor, and yet a lot of sites still do it

- Comment on How to get rid of swollen batteries? 7 months ago:
you cannot recycle li ion batteries “normally”. you should remove the battery from the phone and dispose of it as soon as possible. best buy, target, and some other techy stores take them, so call around. phone repair shops should also be able to help. a conductive container is also a bad idea. airtight plastic is the way to go if you’re that concerned about it, however once it’s removed from the device you can realistically keep it in any nonconductive container and you’ll be fine.

why are we still using autistic as an insult in 2025?
he may be moronic enough to burn it all down from the inside, but autism doesn’t have shit to do with it. I’m tired of people trying to use autism as an get out of jail free card for utter stupidity. autism has very little to do with intelligence levels, and even if it does, it’s the other way around according to most studies.

other factors like usage time, intensity of use, and charging habits also have effects on the lifespan, so it’s hard to compare one person’s experience to a single other persons and draw a conclusion that’s anything other than anecdotal without some very specific controls.
what i do know for certain is that the heat generation from wireless charging has been long studied, and so has the effect of those heats on li ion batteries.

yes! heat is kinda the worst thing you can do to a battery. I’m not a chemist, but I believe the chemical reaction that charges/discharges a lithium ion begins to breaks down when performed in a heated environment, and I can confirm that consistent exposure to heat is how you get the really puffy spicy pillow batteries.
- Comment on Grieve with me 8 months ago:
yep! it’s just less efficient than wired charging and whatever is lost in the process is turned into heat, which is particularly poor for your battery. batteries are consumables anyways and it seems like most people get it replaced at least once in a phones lifespan, so it doesn’t really matter if you’re ok with that. from my experience fixing phones over the years I can definitely confirm that using wireless charging consistently, particularly if you’re doing anything intensive at the same time, will lower the lifespan of your battery significantly.

what type of phone? I can gladly give detailed instructions on how to replace it if you want!

I think you could do this repair at home with no prior experience on a lot of androids. for an iphone you have to remove the motherboard though which is pretty obnoxious
- Comment on Grieve with me 8 months ago:
increases strain on your battery tho
- Comment on Grieve with me 8 months ago:
whatever works best! it’s just kinda hard to find something plastic that skinny and sharp, and I use tweezers as it’s the most efficient (but also the most prone to damage if you make mistakes I guess).
starting with the brush/isopropyl is not a bad idea for cleaning the contacts (and should be the first thing tried if a device isn’t charging) but it usually doesn’t actually get stuff out of the port. if a port is only charging at a specific angle, it’s cause there’s debris stuck in there. in my experience it’s usually very hard to get with a brush as it’s been compacted and cemented over however long you’ve had the device.
