- Comment on Does anyone speak hairdresser? I need help communicating. 8 months ago:
Get the same hairdresser every time, explain it once. The next time you can say “same thing as last time”. Maybe some small corrections here and there, but I never have to explain my wishes anymore.
- Comment on Not buying a shaver from Philips again.. 8 months ago:
Haha, no worries. Turns out there is a Phillips insurance company, just with a double L, rather than a single L.
- Comment on Not buying a shaver from Philips again.. 8 months ago:
USB is typically 5v.
- Comment on Not buying a shaver from Philips again.. 8 months ago:
Pretty sure they never were an insurance company. They’ve always made (consumed) electronics.
- Comment on Amsterdam testing system that can remotely slow e-bikes down 9 months ago:
25 km/h is a sporty bike ride tempo, not a going to the shops to get some food bike ride tempo. Especially considering that most bikes here are upright sitting city bikes rather than sporty, leaning forward bikes.
- Comment on fat time 10 months ago:
It really isn’t, though.

Got milk?
Or the Dutch “Melk is goed voor elk” (“milk is good for anyone”). Same vibe, different era. - Comment on Why do companies love chrome so much? 10 months ago:
Let’s be honest, probably no (automated) pipelines involved in the whole project. Bonus points for SSH’ing into the production server and manually making edits there.
- Comment on This AI generated Article For Soy Free Meat Alternatives 10 months ago:
Cooking with seitan, chickpeas and beans can be really tasty. Myself, I’ve had more luck with trying new recipes versus trying to replace meat in meat dishes. I’ll do the latter every now and then though, because I still like the taste/dish.
- Comment on We're totally screwed 10 months ago:
They don’t have the EUV machines needed to make the most modern chips. Only DUV so far.
- Comment on As if the tip actually goes to the dashers. 11 months ago:
I know. But often Americans say that eating out can’t be affordable if it weren’t for tips. The rest of the world seems to prove otherwise, that’s my point.
- Comment on As if the tip actually goes to the dashers. 11 months ago:
Then why can I, as a student, afford to go out to eat in a non-tipping country?

Blub blub blub gargle gargle blub.

- Comment on I'm locked out of my 6 year old Chipotle account because they now say my email address is invalid when I login. Here is me asking for their help: 1 year ago:
Problem with that is that you can very easily strip off the + and any bit after it to get your “normal” email address. Then again, when they find out mine is a catch-all, they can spam me as well… I guess you never win.
- Comment on I'm locked out of my 6 year old Chipotle account because they now say my email address is invalid when I login. Here is me asking for their help: 1 year ago:
Same. Nowadays I just use a catch-all email address. Companyname@domain.tld. Allows me to name, shame, and block the company that leaks my email address.
- Comment on If so-called AI is basically just Large Language Models, how come predictive text on my phone is bollock-useless? 1 year ago:
Dutch also has the issue with the compound words. Autocorrect will often put a space in there, which is grammatically incorrect (and ugly). I feel like it’s at a point now where the incorrect space usage has become mainstream and might change the language rules. Oh well.
- Comment on HBO Max is removing features from my plan without reducing my price. 1 year ago:
As a Max, I do not endorse this. Also, yarr.
- Comment on We have had guns for 200 years but mass shootings only became common in the last 30. So what changed? 1 year ago:
Exactly. Around the world, western countries seem to be enshittifying. The only difference is that the US has widespread access to guns which seems to lead to lots of shootings of all flavours. We don’t have that shit here.
- Comment on I hate that message. There's nothing to fix, I swiped left for a reason. 1 year ago:
… what? Have you considered the possibility of one person being attracted to the other (or at least liking their face), while the other doesn’t reciprocate that?
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
I tend to agree with you. Something that subtitles even miss sometimes are the subtle jokes or nuances in the source language. Human dubs often miss those, and I doubt AI dubs will be any better, at least for the foreseeable future.
- Comment on How to run Lemmy Account Migrator? 1 year ago:
I don’t know if you managed to do it yet, but in that case it’s for future people finding this: I think you’re suffering from first-time-on-GitHub-itis. Don’t worry, I had it too, back in the day. I think that you might just have downloaded the source code of this program (at the top right it says download to zip). You can’t run that without compiling it into an executable (program) yourself. What you should do instead, is find the tab labelled “Releases” and download the release for your operating system (windows, macOS or Linux). That should allow you to run the program. :)
- Comment on So why is 3 nm chip better? 1 year ago:
I’m not super well-versed in this field, but I know the basics. People are excited about 3nm processes because it allows you to fit more transistors on the same die or make smaller dies with the same performance as a bigger one on the old process. It also has reduced energy consumption, and thus reduced heat production. How exactly, I’m not sure.
- Comment on Is it recommended to wear a face mask when riding bicycle around cars? 1 year ago:
As much as I hated that excuse during the pandemic, I think I’d have trouble breathing when wearing an FFP3/N95 mask while cycling. Granted, I’m talking about cycling as a sport, not for commuting (though I tend to have a decent speed while commuting). Going 30 km/h I really need my air to keep it up.

Just make the code 00000 like the nuclear launch codes were for years.
- Comment on Is Windows 11 decent yet? 1 year ago:
It’s been pretty alright for me, actually. Both with gaming and development using WSL2.

It does, and under sane laws, it’s also illegal.
- Comment on Question for software developers: how do you organize your To Do list at work? 1 year ago:
Issues on jira/GitHub/gitlab/whatever is used and their planning boards. Assign them to me, put them in to-do/planned and do them until they’re all closed/to be reviewed. Occasionally I will put a reminder in the reminders app of my phone with a timed alert if I mustn’t forget something rather urgently.
- Comment on Are there any US banks that provide automated access to account data? 1 year ago:
Doesn’t look like it’s available in the US.
That’s a bummer. Hoping for you they get at it soon, though. I for one love it, since I barely have to move around money anymore between my different budgeting piggy banks anymore. It’s all automatic :D
- Comment on Why is the consumption of Meat considered bad 1 year ago:
It’s all a personal choice. There’s no one holding a gun to your head forcing you to use/consume meat. It’s fine that it’s a personal choice, but it is something one should be aware of.
- Comment on Why is the consumption of Meat considered bad 1 year ago:
Supply and demand.
