Many gamers are like meth-heads. They just need their next fix, hence pre-orders for digital games.
Even if GTA6 would need a donation of your blood and all of your personal information, I doubt that sales figures would take a significant hit.

I think you need to blame your own education, as you cannot seem to have much reading comprehension.
Additionally, you seem hellbent on defending AI without even highlighting its uses, while loading blame on humanity as a whole.
Can our choices help reducing energy usage? Ans should we tackle those issues? Absolutely!
Is the additional energy usage of AI worth it? Absolutely not!
But I don’t have the time nor the crayons necessary to explain you the world, so let us part ways in with the understanding that different people have different views on the topic.

As I did write, I do agree that we as a species need to be more sustainable. But please give me one reason why wasting even more energy on AI is in any way shape or form benefitial.

I am not ‘allowed to be upset’? Lol, ok. Sounds like you see youself as some sort of moral police.
Call me a hypocrite if it makes you feel better but you are just skirting my point that the energy usage of AI is something that is unnecessary, just like the glowing LED lichtbulb in your empty kitchen.
This makes you come across as either daft, or as someone who argues in bad faith.

You are still arguing a moot point.
Could and should we, in the western world, be more sustainable? Absolutely yes!
But do you think, that even MORE energy consumption for something as useless and flawed as current AI systems are is in any way justified?
Even if it is just a blip on the radar compared to energy that is used to survive, it is still more load that comes on top of current usage.
How much sense would it make to undertake efforts to reduce the energy that is used to live while at the same time using more energy to power data centers that mostly benefit some guys who bet on the usefullness of AI, even against common sense?

Sounds like you are the one being played.
Transport, food and heating are not required because they are fun or nice to have. They are means to survive.
Energy and water consumption of data centers are different because the product (AI slop and best guesses) is NOT required to survive.

I am not completely against this technology if it can be used to ‘remaster’ older games.
In the current climate of rising hardware prices, it just seems unnecessary and tone-deaf to introduce such tech that requires not one, but TWO top of the line GPUs to run.
Yes, Nvidia is hugely into AI and machine learning, but they might be known as slopvidia soon if the keep forcing this stuff on gamers.

Uboat
Even though I did not like it at first because of the (optional) management and (also optional) zoomed out cut-out camera view. I loved Silent Hunter and was hoping for a modern take but the above mentioned features of the game kind of clashed with my expectations. Luckily, there is a captain 1st person only mode and walking through your super detailed boat as the captain while listening to 40s radio stations (through mods) and blasting British freighters with well calculated torpedo shots is a lot of fun.
Skyrim VR ( MadGodsMod)
It is always fun to play Skyrim from time to time, but this version has to be my favourite, and after finally having a PC that is beefy enough for VR makes this ancient game one of my highlights this year.

Funny, I find Bananas benefit the most by being stored in the fridge.
Yes, the peel gets greyish eventually but the inside stays good to eat for much longer.

I might be weird, but in my opinion, there is not a single fruit that does not last longer or taste better when it is stored in the fridge.
Also keeps away those pesky fruit flies.

I totally would.
Problem is, too many greedy people would hook up so many storage drives to download thousands of houses that my house would not have any space left on earth to place it once it is finally finished downloading.
