In the final fantasy and Pokemon games o played when I was younger -and more recently Expedition 33-there wasn’t any movement. My team was standing static on the left, then enemy team on the right. BG3 is the first turn based game I played where I could strategically move around a 3D environment.

I’m playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for the first time right now. I’m not particularly a fan of turn-based games, but I’m digging there interpretation of the genre. I like how each character has a limited amount of movement per turn and the ability to navigate through the entire environment. I’m surprised more developers don’t use a similar model.

I hate the pay for ad-free subscription model. They you people’s personal data to optimize the experience, making their ads as annoying and disorienting as possible.
When Reddit first unveiled their subscription, they began spamming my phone with obnoxious herpes advertisements. The ad just said “Herpes?” in big purple letters. Since this particular subject invoked a sense of fear and anxiety, it theoretically should have made me more likely to pay for a subscription.

The addictiveness of a drug is actually a quantifiable metric. In the early 20th century, scientists exposed hundreds of drug naive individuals to different psychoactive compounds. Although there are individual differences, something like half of the people exposed to intravenous heroin and morphine would actively seek out the next hit.

…the average worker in Africa would need to spend more than a year of wages to buy an Xbox or a PlayStation. Game consoles are in fact luxury goods, we just take them for granted.

Hygiene literally means practices that maintain health. Saying “we are healthy by maintaining better hygiene” literally means “We maintained our health by engaging in practices that maintained our health.”

I think it’s important. Most of the people in AA aren’t religious, but the “program” wouldn’t survive if it lacked structure. People use the religious terminology, but most of them don’t believe it.

It makes sense. I live near the border, and I’ve worked at quite a few places that used Canadian imports to make finished American products. I’m glad I found a new job since them; God knows it my ex-boss found a new supplier of steel tubing. Every car part we manufactured was a product of Canada.

Personally, I don’t believe anyone has human rights. It is the wolves right to hunt the gazelle for food, and it’s the gazelle’s right to evade him. Although I am not against uplifting poorer countries, I feel like they would just become more wolves if they got their shit together.

Testosterone administration is more illegal pharmaceutical use then it is a fad diet. It’s also not particularly dangerous. The safety profile is similar to hormonal birth control.

I had the same opinion, but it changed after playing Doom (2016, Xbox One) and Doom Eternal (2020, Xbox Series X) back to back. The difference was dramatic.
I still believe we are reaching a point where Moore’s law is hitting a fundamental limit, but only time will tell how things will pan out. My guess is that consoles will need to get bigger to get better.

Karma is just a means to exploit perceived peer pressure to reinforce desired behavior and change how people think. The desired behavior from the perspective of the platform isn’t limited to engagement. There are more subtle forms of monetization, such as propoganda and “peer”-to-peer advertising.

Increased demand translates to increased memory and ram production capacity?

I think the problem might sort itself out once the data centers are actually built. The impact from maintaining a data center is probably less than from actually building one.
