I’ve been using Debian for like 15 years, but recently I’ve been trying out OpenSuse, all the versions like Slowroll and Aeon too. It’s just… I keep returning to Debian. On tumbleweed I constantly had that eerie feeling of “oh gosh what changed today..?” What made you do the switch?

I ran into my dentist at a bar once. She came up to me, very drunk, and said/shouted: “Do you realize who I am? I am your dentist! Now I’m going to have a mojito, because that’s what all old hags drink!” and then she wandered off. Unrelated, but when I am in the dentists chair, she always lean over so my head is sort of resting against or between her breasts a little. It’s subtle enough that I don’t know if it’s more inappropriate in itself, or if it would be more inappropriate to make her aware of it.

The philosopher Emil Cioran had an interesting take on this. If I read him right we can stop looking for the meaning of life. It won’t make us happy to look, but it also won’t make us happy to stop. Nothing will make us happy.

If your threat model involves spying on that level, sure, self-hosting at home is probably warranted. What I mean is that I’d rather have one powerful computer and the rest, laptop, phone, etc, use that resource instead of each device being an island. I don’t want my files spread out over so many devices, I want access to everything from everything.
