Damn, Yorgos and Emma Stone cranking out films together for whatever reason. I feel like Poor Things wasn’t released that long ago.

Why is this always the reaction by AI advocates when faced with major problems in AI?
If you want to convince AI can potentially be a benefit and not a negative then denial is not the way.
This kind of hasty implementati of AI by tech bros should absolutely be ridiculed, since it has real world consequences.
- Comment on Well, it's officially over. Tom Hardy says George Miller’s "MAD MAX: FURY ROAD" prequel "THE WASTELAND" is no longer happening. 1 week ago:
I do early matinees and avoid a lot of the worst aspects of the theater experience. Far fewer people, tickets are like $6 and when you get out you still have the rest of the day.
I did make an exception for Dune to see it in iMax and it was worth it, though that might just be lucking out with a decent crowd where people are respectful of eachother’s experience. The baseline of respect people have for strangers hasn’t fully bounced back since the pandemic, sadly.
- Comment on Well, it's officially over. Tom Hardy says George Miller’s "MAD MAX: FURY ROAD" prequel "THE WASTELAND" is no longer happening. 1 week ago:
I’m kind of surprised it was considered a flop, it was just as good as Fury Road. It even did a little bit better job at filling out the world and solidifying the characters than FR. It was actually more than just one long chase (as cool as that is) but still had plenty of action and vehicle antics etc. Critic and audience scores are also high.
I think it’s maybe more a reflection of the cinema landscape as a whole or something. Theaters aren’t dead, but I do think they peaked maybe in terms of the insanely inflated box office numbers that have set unrealistic industry expectations for “success”.

“And thus it was that the Great Finger Lords, thralls to Gordana the Pulchritudinous, cast their withered finger-bodies into the Well of Sangine Apoploxy, shattering the Piteous Eye, and covering the vale in a shadow of fingers.
Only when the Order of the Beshivered Spindle is restored upon the Great Finger-ruine Mountain will Bodkin the Befingered return to rebuild the Yeoman’s Sepulchre and return the Affrighted Digitus to its finer-realm. Fingers.”
- Comment on Elden Ring Twitter warns of DLC spoilers being posted everywhere 1 week ago:
What spoilers? That you fight a big, weird-looking boss with multiple baby heads or something at some point? The game’s story is not exactly full of twists and turns.
- Comment on Justice for our boy 1 week ago:
Isn’t this meme throwing their rhetoric back at them though? It highlights how absurd it looks when they make this crazy religious political rhetoric that makes a criminal out to be some “godly” man.
This cynical use of religion is a pretty good satirization of what right-wingers do.

- Comment on Is it just me or do Lemmy communities tend to skew left wing? Why might this be? 1 week ago:
I think it’s more that you don’t get many right-wing extremists and the mods don’t protect the ones that do exist from seeing things they don’t like.
There are still a lot of neoliberal kind of conservatives on lemmy, and then also right-wing types in the form of tankies, but for the most part I think the light touch by most of the moderators means that facts (which favor the “left”) tend to be allowed to persist in a way they don’t on many social media that see profit in extremist content.
- Comment on Big Kone lies 2 weeks ago:
Show me a left wing community on the Internet where they joke about rape and share videos of beheadings and pictures of dead kids to make jokes about. Where they relentlessly dox women who dare complain about being represented as sex objects in video games and media, harassing them in a coordinated, explicit purpose of driving them to misery or even suicide. Where their memes like “an hero” stem from a literal suicide posted to their community. Show me the left wing equivalent of that trash.
4chan is disgusting, and it’s disgusting because of the garbage human beings who hang out there.
- Comment on Big Kone lies 2 weeks ago:
How does one achieve the naivety to believe only a single political faction operates like this?
Because literally only one does. There is no bothsides here. 4chan is a cesspool that spawned some of the most awful hate seen on the Internet. Bannon saw the opportunity to there during Gamer Gate and 4chan was a willing springboard for the political disaster unfolding not just in the US but globally.
Fuck 4chan and fuck fascists, there is no giving them a “fair shake”.
- Comment on Big Kone lies 2 weeks ago:
I’d prefer to express why the downvote was given, since a lot of people aren’t fully aware of how the alt-right uses a specific brand of humor to insinuate themselves into communities and that 4chan humor has its basis in largely in white supremacist/misogynist/pedophile shit.
The whole point of the humor is to make a bigoted meme, then layer over it again and again until people who aren’t “initiated” don’t understand that they’re basically propagating nazi symbols etc.
It’s kind of like how after a while of a community making “ironic” nazi jokes it gets more and more difficult to distinguish the irony from just straight up support for racism. Morons get caught up in that trap, it’s how the right recruits skinheads, incels, and proud boys and such, by massaging them into complacency.
Chantard humor and symbols should be rejected wholesale, no reason to allow the fediverse to become a breeding ground for right-wingers like Reddit became.

- Comment on France in Shock as Conservative Leader Embraces Far Right 2 weeks ago:
Damn, if Russia and China pull this off I don’t want to hear any talking down by the French about Americans being politically unsophisticated. France even got the benefit of witnessing exactly how the Russian/CCP far-right sabotaged the US democracy from the inside out by exploiting their dimmest demographics. Same with the UK. Yet these countries are falling the exact same playbook, it’s crazy.
Welcome to the “multi polar world”…
- Comment on Big Kone lies 2 weeks ago:
4chan humor is mostly moldy af in my opinion, plus it links the fediverse to a toxic internet culture.
Reddit’s decline further and further into alt-right bullshit was facilitated in part by subs like greentext. The alt-right always tries to use “humor” as a gateway into normal spaces, corrupting them by slowly introducing fashy nonsense as “just jokes bro”.
They post this stuff on other social media because their incel kingdom is dying. I say let it die, no need to give them relevance.
- Comment on Big Kone lies 2 weeks ago:
Can we all just agree now to leave the 4chan stuff on 4chan?
- Comment on Glad I was too dumb to finish college... 3 weeks ago:
The problem is, the Abrahamic religions will always seed new fundementalists because, regardless of how people with a modern mindset might interpret it as allegory etc. to make it more palletable, the texts were intended to be read and believed literally. They were written by people in the bronze age, based on made up stories that go who knows how far back.
It’s what makes them so toxic, the belief virus of fundementalism is always there in a latent state waiting to be activated by some new context (usually a particularly charismatic leader or radical change in society).
You see a great example with the current pope – people thought from his language of “acceptance” towards lgbt people that the church was becoming more progressive, but then recently you see him using slurs that pretty clearly contradict that sentiment, because he understands the text is unequivocally anti-lgbt. The Abrahamic religions will always betray people in this way.
- Comment on Glad I was too dumb to finish college... 3 weeks ago:
If religion wasn’t behind some of the worst atrocities on the planet you might have a point, but the largest religions also are the ones that tend to be fundementally intolerant.
Once an irrational belief in magical spirits starts effecting other people and how our society is run that’s when it becomes something people actively need to be convinced not to believe. They need to cope with reality, not hide from it.
- Comment on Alito Refuses Calls for Recusal Over Display of Provocative Flags 3 weeks ago:
Sure, like I say it would not be good in and of itself per se, but perhaps it would motivate the actual reform of the court and the way we concieve of it. There’s no real reason that it needs to be 9 wizards, or that those wizards necessarily can’t be rotated out to other courts as a matter of process. It’s far more maleable than a lot of people realize.
The SCOTUS has also not always been as influential as it is now, through our history is has been sidelined to varying degrees.
Famously, Roosevelt simply threatened to pack the court to achieve his New Deal goals and that made the SCOTUS more compliant. The judges love their power undiluted, that is one thing that can be relied on. I think a threat to disregard a ruling could be used similarly to leverage.
A more unsavory but direct example of disregard for judicial power would be Worcester v Georgia, which effectively granted sovereignty to the Cherokee nation in Georgia, in an effort to stop them being removed. Andrew Jackson simply ignored it and removed them anyway.
It is a double-edged sword, but perhaps people need to be reminded.
- Comment on Alito Refuses Calls for Recusal Over Display of Provocative Flags 3 weeks ago:
Yeah that was a disappointment from Jackson.
I guess the way to deal with that is literally for the other branches to just start ignoring the SC decisions. It’s not a good thing that it gets to that point, but if the SC is going to play that game then you simply exploit their biggest weakness as a branch; they have no enforcement mechanism of their own.
