  I don’t get the logistics. Even assuming it’s a 1080 stream, which is probably unlikely, the feet of a single person are just a few pixel. That’s like watching porn on a C64, your imagination is doing almost all the work.

    The camera could be pretty static in between pews, with a focus on the coffin. When people walk up to say their goodbyes, their feet may be in more or less focus

  WHY WOULD YOU STREAM IT AND MAKE IT ABOUT YOU?!

  I would understand if it’s a self-reflection and comfort after the event, but not during.

    Some people have friends all over the world that cant make the journey.

    Recently had this for a family funeral, 40/50 people from South Africa asked if it could be live-streamed. The immediate family didnt like the idea, but i can appreciate why they asked.

    Like the other commentator said, if you’re on the other side of the world, old, infirm etc it gets you to the funeral. A lot of people, religious and otherwise, take a degree of comfort seeing the final journey be made by their friend, loved one or family, that all humans eventually take.

      I understand that, but the post above highlights that there needs to be discretion to such an invite.

      Placing it in a public space increases the risks of bad actors coming into stream and ruining the event for everyone. People have done such things for less.

      I would’ve forwarded the obituary through a private family group or messenger as opposes to a socmed.

    Reminds me of when my Nana died. People who I have never seen before in my entire life all came out of the woodwork to gawk and take pictures of her corpse. I was beyond pissed off and my biggest regret is not slapping those camera out of their hands because I didn’t want to cause a scene at a funeral. I wanted to say to them, “who the fuck are you and how dare you disrespect my grandmother like that!? I was there for her my entire life, where the fuck where you?”

    My mom told me it was a catholic thing to take pictures of the dead, but I don’t give a shit about their shitty religion, especially if it encourages people to do selfish shit like this. If I could have done it all over again I would have definitely spoken up, but alas this was 14 years ago and I’ll never see those people again…whoever the fuck they were…
