Ah yes, the Performance Penalty. Instead of competently leading the team, management relies on a selection of competent overachievers.

When your boss knows that you don’t have kids and not married.

Literally kills me. “What you’ve got video games and jerking off to do? We really need you to cover this overtime”. Verbatim from my chief awhile back. It’s not like he’s wrong… but come on man.

I’ve been in Management for the last few years, some teams were 60+ people and some were only about 15. Your chief is a dick that needs to get their hands dirty. Any boss that isn’t willing to respect the time of their team, whether on the clock or off the clock, doesn’t deserve to be a boss.

I knew the hours of everyone on my team. I never gave a shit if you had kids or a party waiting for you after work, what you do after your scheduled hours is up to you. If I didn’t have enough employees for the work we had, that’s my problem and not yours.

Tell them you got other people’s kids to watch so they can go to work, someone has to be part of the village. If they press you on it then ask them for their availability because lots of families need free babysitter.

Hell might even make them hesitant to schedule outside of ability

Eh. When your boss has four people in the office to do six people’s jobs, and the VP just said they’re cutting headcount by two.

I haven’t been in that situation, but I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just continue working your normal hours. If they give you more tasks, well I guess it’ll take longer. It’s not like you’re missing out on a promotion since they clearly don’t value you anyways

One of my coworkers said she loves working with me because she’s not scared of running into problems because I have the solution to 90% of what she runs into. I was like bitch. what. but then I remembered she doesn’t fight me on having to take charge nurse all the time and like. A few weeks ago she got in trouble for something one of the junior nurses didn’t handle quite right (tbh none of us would though that pt should not have been on our unit) and getting in trouble for shit other people do is exactly why I fight like hell not to be charge nurse all like. Just for you. None of you other people. If you’ve ever asked "well why can’t Apy be charge she has the most experience!??!???! Exactly. Y’all stupid and idw be on the hook for your shit. I’d rather just solve the problem on the sidelines and you can take all the credit for whether it works or not (and like 90% of the time it will so 🫅)
