It seems once again parents who don’t supervise their kids ruin it for all other families.

I really don’t think it should be controversial for a drinking establishment to choose to be cold free. Often they aren’t suitable for kids anyway.

I think it depends on the context, if it was the only pub in a small village, you’d want it to be inclusive as possible. However, in a big city like London, there are lots of pubs, and if one isn’t child-friendly, there’s plenty of others that are, and vice versa.

    Lol

The pub has also decided to ban dogs after 18:00 on Fridays and Saturdays - a move staff say has prompted more pushback than the child‑free policy.

Yeah, more of this please. They don’t need to be everywhere.

I’m 43. When I was a kid not being allowed in a pub was the norm. We would be tucked away in the family room or sent to play outside with a panda-pop and a bowl of chips whilst the adults had a beer. I don’t see the issue with it, they don’t serve food, its a place to drink alcohol.

A lot of pubs in the UK do serve food, and often they have provisions for families including changing tables and high chairs.

        Yes. I know.

I didn’t say they didn’t. What I said was when I was a kid, so over 30 years ago, children were not generally permitted in pubs except for family areas. If there was no family area then the kids had to play outside.

It kinda did us good, we got some freedom too. The field at the end of the beer garden (after a coke that you drank like it was Bacardi & Coke) was where adventure lay. The last thing you wanted was an adult and a gourmet dinner.

Oh yeah. Our local pub had a pinball machine and pool table in a separate annex where all the kids had to hang out. Made lots of friends there

This happens every year. Pub announces the rule, people complain, shitrag makes an article about it.

It’s just marketing at this point.

    Heh. Meanwhile, over here:

    calrest.org/…/minors-and-bars-the-basics-one-page…

    No One Under 21

Section 25665 of the California Alcoholic Beverage Control statute states that minors are not allowed to enter or remain within a bar.

    Patron Must Prove Age

If the patron can’t prove their age, then they can’t remain in the bar. (B&PC §§ 25658(a), 25658.4, 25659).

Bar owners wrongfully allowing minors in a public bar with a green license face a penalty of $1000 and/or 6 months in county jail.

The penalty for the minor wrongfully in the bar is a fine of not less than $200.
