No, see. My version of xenophobic hatred is different and special. Also, history is BORRRING.

Usually by irritating the magic incantation: “This time it’s different!”
Of course it’s not. The same human motivations are in play that also caused the same problems over the last few millennia, just with different names attached to it.

It’s maddening, isn’t it? I’ve been called a Cassandra several times because I “see certain things coming”. Yeah, no shit, I’m not a genius, it’s just simple cause and effect, and some knowledge of history. You would see it too if you open your eyes.

I read about a psychology study where they analysed how many people can link their own actions to effects. A large number of people made the same mistakes multiple times because they didn’t connect the cause. After being told what the cause is, most changed their behaviour, but a significant portion of people still didn’t “get” it and continued making the same bad inputs.

Is this one you’d be able to share? Or one you heard about but never found?
Sounds like an interesting study to read through, eben if the results are depressing.

I suppose it’s because those who are on the wrong side of history either benefit from it, believe they are on the right side of history due to their inhumane ideology, or simply don’t know or don’t care for history.

There is only one thing to be learned from history: We do not learn from history.

Hey it’s working: deathcamps persist, AI datacenters persist, Democratic states complied, no armed coalition formed, the fascist haven’t faced real consequence for ignoring the law, etc…

Well, first they write their own history books.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. People generally hate learning things they’re not interested in, and one of the least interesting things for the average person is a fact that challenges their established world view.

Challenging your own presumptions and admitting that you are not in control and that the world is a lying piece of shit and that things are actually really bad is way harder than double down and just enjoy the money from your 9-5.
People don’t want to face dark shit. I don’t. I still do it, but sometimes I wish I didn’t. I’m miserable. I have integrity, but that is a pitiful consolation considering how much worse my life is because I don’t just blindly go along with (((society))).

More people than you can shake millions of sticks at, are stunted and stupid and angry beyond what we could imagine was possible.

More like the teachers edition is open in front of them, they’re being actively encouraged to read it for the answers, but they’re still falling every single question including the one at the top that says “Name:”.
