It’s not.
They’re not sharing … they’re cannibalizing each other due to scarce resources.
Just they’re lucky that if their shallow pool floods and they make it to a larger cenote they can hopefully survive.

They will completely devour their siblings given the chance, not just eat their legs. Generally juvenile behaviour from them, once they have grown up they don’t usually eat each other. Freshly hatched don’t either for the first few weeks to months.
Plus especially in the wild, not having legs is going to put you at quite a disadvantage. They can eventually grow back but its not like its good for them.
