Highly educated people can be addicted to gambling tactics too
- Comment on Families in New York City demonstrated against a proposal to allow cars in a local park. A politician showed up in a car to mock them 2 days ago:
I’m actually a bit confused. That looks like the road doesn’t actually cross the park, but is adjacent to it?
- Comment on Families in New York City demonstrated against a proposal to allow cars in a local park. A politician showed up in a car to mock them 2 days ago:
I remember once in my home country in Europe I was with friends in the woods with our bikes hacking fun going up and down the small hills. Not mountain bikes, just normal bicycles but the trails were solid enough. Suddenly about 30 Jeeps skow up and start going around the place, absolutely trampling the terrain and making it impossible to bike or even walk around. Must have been a meetup of diesel brains. We tried to argue with them that they destroyed the whole place, but they basically argued it was their right.
Fuck. Cars.
- Comment on Everyone Hates Windows Right Now 1 week ago:
Well, yeah, because Linux is not the status quo. If you hate Windows you need to change and people hate change. If you hate Linux, you just go on living you (ignorant) life.
- Comment on Everyone Hates Windows Right Now 1 week ago:
And people have hated Linux for almost as long. I believe in actions not in people complaining online. Linux is an option for a lot of people but they don’t want change, they want to complain. And Microsoft profits of that inaction.
- Comment on Is what Elijah saying here true for all heroes and villains across the board? Or is it how it used to be? What would be equivalent today? 1 week ago:
Media today is way more subtle than that, in part because culturally we don’t need to be told so explicitly anymore. It’s similar to how villains used to, and sometimes still do, have a strong gay accent, because being queer coded was the same as being evil coded. That’s the same principle with the weird body proportions vs the perfect white American jaw.
- Comment on Do women fart when they pee too? 1 week ago:
I want to understand this question. Is the implication that men don’t pee and poop/fart, or that you think women would somehow be different than men in this department? Do you only exclusively pee standing?

Yeah, I wrote my thesis in it. As a programmer it made total sense to me.
- Comment on Is it possible to cool my body enough to not sweat while exercising? 2 weeks ago:
Sweat means your body is trying to cool down, not that your heart is pumping.
- Comment on (1949) Grandma's Kitchen Organization Hacks [9:53] 2 weeks ago:
Some features of this kitchen clearly were from an era when a lot of things were hand made at home, but others would be really handy today. Storage under the upper cupboards for instance.
- Comment on How many active robots do you think exist today on this planeeet by your best estimate ? 3 weeks ago:
Automotive industry uses lots of robots. There’s little manual work in the production of cars nowadays.
- Comment on Hypothetically, if your were a kid and your parents worked for a government intelligence agency, how would you keep secrets / have privacy from your parents? 4 weeks ago:
Do you assume secret services are constantly spying on their kids?
- Comment on Where are the marketing volunteers? 4 weeks ago:
Email was born in a service vacuum. The reason it still exists today is the same reason nothing else can become as ubiquitous as email.
- Comment on How do you build revolutionary optimism in these dark times? 4 weeks ago:
What kind of software is getting better? Most commercial software has steadily gotten worse, moving to subscription models, taking more risks with updates and breaking things. I remember clearly when Github got bought by Microsoft. Since then, outages became a common occurance whereas before they were rare.
Open source software is arguably getting better and better, but less people are willing to do it for free while big tech reaps their free labour for profit with no return.

For a while I stayed watching a lot of shorts even though I don’t like them much. It’s just so easy to get sucked in… But some weeks ago I found NouTube which is basically a Web version that blocks ads and sorts. It’s like the good old days. YouTube suddenly feels so interesting again. Shorts have cannibalized long format videos.

- Comment on Chinese Maglev test vehicle sets world record, accelerating from 0 to 318 MPH in 2 seconds 5 weeks ago:
That’s a US thing. Also, have you seen the price of everything?
- Comment on Chinese Maglev test vehicle sets world record, accelerating from 0 to 318 MPH in 2 seconds 5 weeks ago:
Why would they transport eggs this way…? Fast (expensive) cargo trains would be used for valuable products. For example minerals, metals, computer chips.
- Comment on I am so scared of nuclear war, how do I cope with it? 5 weeks ago:
That definitely helps putting my mind off of the fear of radiation. Thanks.
- Comment on publication maxxing 5 weeks ago:
This is like the myth of the 10x AI developer. Even if I could code 10x faster, coding is only maybe 25% of what I do at best.

- Comment on Chinese Maglev test vehicle sets world record, accelerating from 0 to 318 MPH in 2 seconds 5 weeks ago:
You can absolutely accelerate this fast if there are no people on board. China probably wants safe autonomous cargo trains at some point.
