no shit, are some people really surprised by this, or do they just want the attention?

This is exactly, exactly the same thing as the guy at the bar or restaurant who thinks all the waitresses and servers are actually hitting on him, for real bro.

They are surprised, because they wanted the attention

It’s just corporate flair, nothing new.

Didn’t know this was a thing. Can’t remember the last time I bought anything from Starbucks. But it’s dumb and wasteful of people’s time, including baristas.

I wonder if the smiley faces Costco receipt checkers draw on the back of the receipt if you have a kid with you is also mandatory

I don’t understand what the logic was behind this decision. Like… literally no one wins.
Baristas are handed extra unnecessary and tedious as fuck work
Customers are just confused but also having to wait longer because that little bit of writing adds up with everything else
Corporate doesn’t make as much profit because pen costs are gonna rise and wait times are gonna extend
Like… who the fuck was this for?

It’s the same as Wendy’s having a department just to write sarcastic tweets. It’s makes you think of them as Corporation the Person instead of Corporation the Corporation. It’s brand imaging. It makes you form a sentimental attachment to a corporation so you choose them over competitors, alternatives, or not buying anything at all.

Maybe, but it’s still lacking all the logic I was talking about.
The twitter account stuff actually has bonuses but no real negatives. A position is usually created to deal with the engagement so someone gets hired, people see random tweets that are sometimes amusing but if they’re not you can ignore them with no effort, and the company gets to advertise while keeping it in-house and the costs way down in comparison to traditional advertising.
This decision has no positives and all negatives.
