They sell this crapp feature, that basically serves only to sponsor right wing media for no reason, as if it was a greate and modern feature, and as if it was worth enough to give Google the commercial right to my activity on YouTube. This shit is so useless that I am using only the subscriptions tab with PocketTube, since the default one is also crap.
They’re doing you a favor, tbh. Just go straight to the subscription page and skip out on all the algorithmic bull they push.

I think OP mostly views left wing content and is outraged by having that same content (albeit with a right wing twist) suggested to them.
I sincerely hope it isn’t just a “right bad” circlejerk.

I keep hearing about it recommending right wing media, but I have not had this experience. It recommends me stuff that is almost exactly the same as things I watch regularly which is super weird and creepy to a degree. Like, not just the topics are similar, but the film style and even the voices and looks of those on camera are extremely similar to the point where I’ve wondered if they actually are people I know but posting to different channels.
That’s weird I watch almost entirely tech/news/commentary that is very much on the socialist bend yet have to block far right wing channels monthly from the recommendations.
I have the same experience. I police my algorithm aggressively to the point where I can immediately tell if they’ve made adjustments to it. I’ve blocked american sports channels repeatedly over the last couple years, for example. Youtube shorts contain the highest ratio of right-wing rage bait. Despite never, ever engaging with these videos and actively downvoting and blocking these creators outright, right-wing rage politics are regularly injected into my recommendations, a feed that is mostly focused on music, games, science and technology.
I wonder if using the same account since 2003 makes it work better? I’ve been on YT since it’s inception, and have never completely cleared my history; only removed certain items to prevent it using that data because I didn’t like the content.
I really like this home page, I wish they could offer this as an option because I also like to have history on
I like my history for moving between devices. Also I don’t get recommended any right wing stuff. I’m subscribed to things like TYT and other similar channels, too, which also likely keeps the crazy at bay.
Same issue here but on mobile I picked NewPipe.
Desktop I just book marked my subs, signed out and enabled adblock. Loving it.
I already installed NewPipe in my grandma’s television (I don’t have one). In mobile I sticks with revanced because I love sponsor lock and to have selective adblocker. In desktop I sticks with the site but I use several extensions to made it usable: Return deslike, YouTube enhancer, pockettube, sponsorblock, etc.

There’s a ton of comments here proving that false, as well as your own experience in all likelihood. Just because that’s the one thing you hate the most about it does not mean that’s all it does.
What is the point of this post even about? You want us to congratulate you on changing a setting?
I actually kinda wish mine would show some every now and then. The content I do watch uses a lot of clips that I wouldn’t mind seeing the full context of. But I can seek that out if need be, so that’s fine with me. But it never does that.
The closest I’ve come to that experience is when it shows frauditor channels (I watch a LOT of content making fun of them).
For example, for those familiar with it, I’ll get random videos from Chille’s channel, when no sane person has ever figured him to be correct about the current color of the sky, much less anything he says in his content.
Even when I see content from a legitimate auditor, it’s just a waste of time because that’s just boring af. The only fun thing about any of them is watching them get arrested while they scream about “muh rights”.
First, there are comments that deny what I said and there are also comments that confirm it. At least for what involves my country, Brasil, this is not some crazy thing in my head but an established fact.
I don’t want congratulations for absolutely nothing. I haven’t changed any settings either. My YouTube has had history turned off for ages and still had home screen functionality based on subscriptions and reacted videos and it sucked back when history was on too. The post was simply pointing out how mildly irritating it is that YouTube acts like it’s a feature that warrants the legal license to commercially use my viewing data.

I’ve literally never seen right wing media on YouTube. Maybe stop watching stuff that makes YouTube think you’re into right wing media?

Easier said than done. Watching seemingly unrelated things will get you these recommendations anyway. If I had to guess, watching videos that are also watched by the cohort of right-wing-media-watchers will align your algorithm more with that cohort, even if the videos are not right wing media.
There also seems to be no nuance. Watching anything politics aside, watching “Person X’s new policy completely debunked” feels like it has the same pull to the right as “Libs triggered by person X’s new policy”.
I watch a shit ton of YT, try to not watch any rage-bait or similar and I diligently prune my homepage daily with clicking “Not Interested” & “Don’t recommend channel”. It took a while for these recommendations to creep in, but now that they are here they are relentless. I also feel like it took a miniscule amount of videos, compared to the amount I watch, to cause this change.

It’s even worse in the shorts algorithm.
All of the content I consume in YouTube shorts is like cute animals and food related, but I still keep getting “BEN SHAPIRO OWNS LIBERAL” and “Jordan Peterson gives his very important opinion on something he doesn’t know shit about” at least ~10% of the time.

Additionally, if you do end up on some right wing video, don’t downvote it. It just tells the algorithm you will engage with that content

More than that, I never saw political or controversial “influencer” content on YouTube at all. It’s mostly tech reviews, memes, travel and photography videos, just exactly what I watch.
Algorithms are so good these days it’s kinda funny to see someone being angry about being offered to watch the same stuff they usually watch

What part of what I said about my history being shut down did you not read? Also, of course, the left-wing videos that I watch, plus the physics channel where the host is also left-wing, plus the investigation channel where the host is also left-wing, plus the audio-story channel where, guess what, the host is also from the left, plus the channel that publishes old movies in the public domain, plus the songs with leftist content that I listen to, all of this adds up to the obvious fact that I am from the right! But of course, the algorithm knows better what I am. It’s not like Google is behind several scandals about top tier advertisers being right-wing think thanks! (A parenthesis, I am talking about my country, Brasil, in the US Google maybe have Dem Party bias, but also the Dem Party is only left-wing in the crazy minds of Americans)

I do get some political(left and right) media on YouTube but that's because I activity watch it sometimes. Before i never got it
The best way to stop getting it is to indeed stop interacting with it.
