  Rastafari isn’t actually that cool, especially not when it comes to gay people. They are also strongly opposed to oral and anal in heterosexual couples and are generally quite patriarchal. Have a read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rastafari

  Also, afrocentrism is one of its core ideas, which makes it pretty weird when white people convert to it (e.g. Gentleman, a German reggea singer).

  lol some of the “cool” stuff are explicitly against homosexuality. Like Rastafari and Reggae (not all) Lots of homophobic lyrics in reggae music. And often just calling for straight up murder of gays.

    This was decades ago. There was a Reggae Revival in the 2010ths, lots of great artists which stopped promoting homophobia and violence. The US were super homophobic a couple of decades ago. So let’s not judge this island too hard, change needs time.

  Imprisonment is the least of it. My girlfriend’s uncle was a gay man in Jamaica that tried to help other gays. Tried to open a gay nightclub. Was macheted to death in his own place and police just called it a random break in. Nothing was taken. But case closed. No investigation.
