Yeah, sorta.
- 311 is a shit show. You have to pretty much get involved with your local government officials to get literally anything done, otherwise you can just live with your pothole.
- City officials have had a hard on for a minor league baseball stadium for fucking YEARS. They asked Richmond citizens for their vote on it, and every single time people said fuck no. It’s $110 million that could have been used to repair crumbling infrastructure, provide support programs, add additional affordable housing, repair our busted streets…noooo, why do that when we can go to a fucking minor league baseball game. Good idea Stoney.
- City officials also hard a hard on for a casino to bring in additional “needed money” that they planned to throw in absolutely terrible locations. No one wanted it. I think we had to vote it down like half a dozen times.
Petersburg, a
crumbling ruinstruggling town is now voting to add it. Just what it needs. - Look up the history of Jackson Ward.
- Shcokoe Bottome still has buildings were destroyed in the flood back 30 years ago that have yet to be revitalized (but a fucking stadium is fine, right?)
Thats just off the top of my head. Love it here though. Just…lots of annoyances.

don’t forget the statewide ban on pornographic material. granted it was mostly as anti-lgbt hate speech, but it banned like all sorts of shit including pornhub and it’s subcompanies, several textbooks, etc

As some who lived in Richmond and used to run by this spot on my daily run, this is taken from the top of a hill.

Ground truth here: I don’t know if you’re ready for it, but despite being the capital of the confederacy, Richmond is close enough to the east coast megalopolis that it is more northern than not. Yes, we still have those problems here, but we are moving in the right direction. One residents opinion.

I second this opinion from my comfy vantage point in North Chesterfield. Just don’t move near Hull and Broad Rock or you’ll be moving again within a year (nightclub opened across the alley, heroin and sex work all over, and my neighbor murdered someone… LOL)

Yeah I like Richmond. Good weather; good food; good beer; outdoor activities; proximity to beaches, mountains, and vineyards… Like you said, political ideology is moving in the right direction.

Reminds me of the Old 97’s re-write of a Dylan tune.

What a weird point of view in the pic. I can tell this is in the bottom but I can’t figure out which roof this was taken from. Maybe a drone shot?
Shotgun_Alice@lemmy.world 3 months ago
This was taken from the top of a hill. I would sometimes run by this place on my jog because I liked the view. If you want I can find it on google maps street view.

That’s pretty cool! I’ll have to check this place out.
