And I thought I’d seen all the phlebotomist memes. I like this one though, it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase Goblin Mode.

- Comment on When you donate, do you ever think of the person that gets your blood and how high their hospital bill will be? 4 weeks ago:
I believe the only time it is designed like that is for autologous donations. That is where you donate specifically for yourself ahead of time for a procedure. This is really helpful for people with special blood needs or religious exemptions but it’s not really done too often. The only other case I can think of off the top of my head is that new moms can have cord blood banked for personal future use or donate it to stem cell research.

Do you get lab tests done or annual vaccinations? Because many components used in these products are also provided from processing blood donations. Blood donations are never wasted as everything gets used for something in healthcare. Check out the AABB site for more information. Blood donations are a true gift.

Great article! Fascinating to see how different seemingly unrelated areas of expertise and research get combined into a common goal as technologies advance.

Minecraft. I love building crazy things in creative mode or on peaceful but I will never play with monsters on or even attempt to fight the Nether dragon.

I just finished Talos Principle 2 and what a ride! I love Turing Test too and would also suggest Spectrum Retreat to scratch that puzzling itch.
- Comment on Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating? 5 months ago:
Birds are extremely sensitive to the fumes given off by Teflon and will die. So no Teflon anything in the house.
- Comment on Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating? 5 months ago:
I have parrots so no telfon anything in my house. Bought two Green Pan ceramic skillets fairly cheap and they are still going strong a decade later. Definitely don’t use metal utensils in them.
- Comment on Hate these with every ounce of my being 5 months ago:
I just want you to know that those of us who make these things for a living hate them too. By the time the stakeholders gets done with their “input” all the cool shit we wanted to do to make them tolerable and maybe even fun is out the window.
- Comment on My incisions from ankle surgery have hit the itchy stage of healing and it's driving me crazy 5 months ago:
Gabapentin wouldn’t do anything for wound healing. I only mentioned it since OP said they had nerve damage in that area. The itching from the healing can exacerbated the nerve pain and the signals get crossed making everything feel worse. If it is an option it’s certainly worth a try even in the short term.
- Comment on My incisions from ankle surgery have hit the itchy stage of healing and it's driving me crazy 5 months ago:
I’m not sure if it’s feasible for you to get it but gabapentin might help. It’s usually prescribed for neuropathy type pain. I have an old surgery scar that sometimes itches from the inside (if that makes sense) and I’ll take a gabapentin to get it to stop.
- Comment on Tax time 5 months ago:
I wish more people were aware of this. One year I made a rather significant number entry error and should have owed a couple thousand more than I paid. I got a fairly routine letter later in the year asking me to correct the error. I had a little mental panic, reran the numbers, and filed an amended return. There was no pressure, you always have payment options, and they send you back another letter confirming the acceptance of the amended file. I understand that many people would have significant problems paying extra unexpectedly but unless you are actively committing fraud you are not an immediate priority for the IRS.

- Comment on Pharmacy staff from Walgreens, CVS say they’re at a breaking point — here’s what their days look like 6 months ago:
Idk about CVS, but I know for a fact that the computer system used by Walgreens is abysmally outdated and unreliable. The company could solve a whole lot of their problems towards relieving employee stress and customer satisfaction just by updating the damn thing.

Been replaying Talos Principle in anticipation of the sequel coming out next month. Been having a blast with the exception of a few puzzles with mines (if you’ve played it you know). I don’t know if I’m going to 100% it again because I fucking hate those levels.

- Comment on Is America Really That Bad? 8 months ago:
That’s because American health insurance is not really insurance it’s a discount plan. Any of you remember being forced to sell those overpriced coupon books as fundraisers in school? That’s what American health insurance is. It’s a shitty discount plan/coupon book that you are forced into buying from your employer and the plan itself makes sure you pay as much out of pocket as they can legally get away with.
